Should have multiple.

Still top 2 at age 39 - amazing. It's a disgrace he has no DPOY.

...not really. Look at all the guys who won it during his best years...they pretty much all deserved. Duncan wasn't even a better defensive player than Robinson was till 2002 so he wasn't going to win it his first four seasons. Then Ben Wallace came along and easily deserved everyone he got...Garnett...Howard. Duncan really doesn't have any all time great PEAK SEASONS like those guys...he's like Ewing in that he's always been consistently great, but never super dominant like a Hakeem or Robinson.

I'd disagree with that, imo Duncan's '03 season is one the greatest of all time

Here's how the all-time great perimeter players do by this metric

Jordan - 4

Lebron - 2

Kobe - 0

Magic - 0

For Smoke117, only athleticism and capabilities matter. He doesn't care about spacing, being smart or frequency of leaving of the floor.

Yep. Camby with the swats but much less impact - Denver middle of the pack defensively. Spurs near the top.

Its a team based stat, and is useful to compare players within the team, but cant be compared cross-team.

Basketball is team sport .

So Larry Bird is a better defender than Michael Jordan?
And more than 3 times a better defender than Lebron James?

All metrics are good if you know what they represent, how to use them and whats their limitation.

Otherwise it can be used to mislead people, like it was done with PER (and it became a joke stat, not because it is, but because how its misused), and thats what you are doing here with defensive rating :(

Bird played as PF first half of his career . Oliver looks technically and he overrate rebounding . I don't think Bird was better defensive player than Jordan . But I think he had better defensive impact than Lebron . Lebron's athleticism and lockdown defence overrated his defensive impact .

Crazy that Timmy has 0 DPOYs on his mantle.

1. no monkeyball/fake emotion/self promotion => no media love
2. always had great results => no "new" factor
3. also very heavy competition (early 00s ben wallace and kg, late 00s peak dwight howard).

still marc gasol camby, artest, noah were just bad picks .. clearly inferior to duncan.

Kind of kills the significance of the stat. Though looking at an anchor could be different. Team defenders never do to well with that stat either. How does Pippen do?
