FWIW Guinness isn't that popular here either, they're just great at advertising

Funny reactions.
Knock the big 3 American brands all you like (rightly so, as they're terrible beers), but the only beer from Ireland that anyone gives a damn about is mass-produced swill as well. Any number of American stouts destroy Guinness.
Drink what you like and shut the f*ck up about what other people like.

I've heard Guinness tastes different/better in Ireland...But it just doesn't have enough bang for my buck. It's only like 4-5 something %...While I can get something around 8 for the same price, with a helluva lot more flavor.
9erempiree, what craft beers have you tried? Not all of it is fruity man, you're missing out by not trying more frm the sounds of it

I've tried many.
They are either too sweet for my taste and I get bloated from it.

Guiness in Ireland is wayyyy better. It requires a lot of attention to detail that Americans don't take the time to master. Plus it is imported and not freshly brewed. Authentic Guiness taste way better than any stout or porter here

As a craft beer snob I'm literally disappointed at how craft beer has evolved. We are a joke to the rest of the world. They should really call it designer beers for hipsters.

Less carbonation and more flavor in the head. It also has to settle half way then pour the rest before it is served. It has a good burnt type of taste. It's creamy and delicious.

Who comprises these lists?
Sure it is only my opinion. But I'll stick by it. As a person who has drank craft beers before they were even called craft beers and called microbrewery I've had good experiences through the years. Drinking Guiness at the Guiness plant was one of the best.

the list is based on rankings by a bunch of beer snobs
anyway in my personal opinion the best american craft beers are superior to beer from anywhere else in the world, and i have had a lot of german, belgian, czech, english and etc beers to compare. i think it would be hard for anybody to disagree with me after drinking a cold pint of pliny.

Hey don't get me wrong. I'm not an import fan. I just think Guiness is the best in that category. It's not like it's my favorite beer. I've traveled as far as Portland to Vancouver Canada to try craft beers right in their own brewery. My favorite beer is one from Squamish BC called Howe Sound Nut Brown and Pumpkin Eater. But one day if you are ever in Ireland or find a certified Guiness pourer you'll see what I experienced

American craft beers are the best in the world. Well, at least IPA and Ale crafts. There are nice American craft lagers, stouts, and wheat beers but I wouldn't be surprised if Europe did a better job on those.
Firestone Walker is great (their non-IPAs are great I mean, the 805 is really solid)
New Belgium makes some great IPAs (Ranger, Rampant)
Lagunitas is the king of 9%+ beers Little Sumpin Sumpin, Hairy Eyeball Ale, Brown Shugga (last one will kick you in the face)
Bear Republic is really good. Racer 5 is a quintessential IPA, Grand Am is really good too.
You can never go wrong with Sierra Nevada Pale and their Torpedo is pretty legit.
Abita from Louisiana has a few good ones like Turbodog.
Arrogant Bastard isn't my thing but lots of people swear by it.
Pliny the Elder is a very, very solid brew.
Ballast point is overpriced as f!uck but the Sculpin is great. Same goes for Dogfish Head, super expensive, but high quality.
Even the ones that aren't as good, like Mendocino Brewing Red Co.'s Red Tail Ale or Eye of the Hawk are still pretty decent.
And let's not forget Anderson Valley Boont Ale, one of the most drinkable ales out there.

how can anyone say that guinness is the best stout in the world? there are a whole range of stout types, and guinness obviously can't be the best in every category. coffee stouts, oatmeal stouts, milk stouts, extra-bitter stouts... you should broaden your palate one day.
also, there are plenty of non-sweet craft brews. IPAs would be just one of many examples.
btw does anyone here have much experience with nitro beers (i mean other than guinness)? sam adams supposedly started shipping three varieties recently, but i haven't seen them around here yet.

Did you miss the part where I said I've traveled as far as the Pacific Northwest to have craft beers? Over the last 8 years I've gone to at least 3 craft beer shows a year. So much that the beer reps know me by face. I've tried more stouts then I have pairs of Jordans. Ive tried one offs that never made it into production. The best I've had was a Guiness poured from the brewery itself. A guiness served the proper way straight from the plant. But if were breaking it down sure there are tons of categories. It doesn't have to be everyone's favorite it's just my opinion.

Had/liked them all. Ballast Point is definitely overpriced, but I've had a lot of good expierences with Grapefruit Sculpin, or just Sculpin.
Dogfish head is another I've enjoyed quite a bit. Their 60 minute, and 120 minute IPAs are great IMO. Even enjoyed their Higher Math, at 17-18% ABV. It will knock you the **** out. Might be too sweet for some people though.

Pipeworks puts out some great stuff too. Lizard King, Galaxy Unicorn, Mossiac, Vanilla Abduction and a bunch more.
Same with 3 floyds. Artic Panzer Wolf, Zombie Dust, Alpha King, Gumballhead etc
Arrogant Bastards name alone made me love it. Not my go to, but it's drinkable.

Wish I had this one drink sober so I could remember more flavors...But onetime I got a beer on tap that had this STRONG smoke flavor in it, you'd swear you were drinking smoke from a BBQ lol. Almost overpowering, but it had hints of mellow flavors such as vanilla I think too. Maybe not the best drink I've had, but probably the most unique. Would definitely have again

well it sounds like you have a lot more experience and dedication than i do. congrats. other than that, we're clearly talking about two different things.

i'd most certainly try that. if life had gone a bit different for me, i'd love to brew on a regular basis and throw in all kinds of exotic stuff in to the batches. one thing that would probably be consistent tho, is a chili pepper in each bottle. :P

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound snarky or snobby. I always come across people who assume if you like a mainstream beer then you haven't experienced craft beers. As much as I have an aquire taste to craft beer I happen to still like a few mainstream. And Guiness at the Guiness plant was an experience unlike anything else. But it's weird to me how craft beer drinkers shun every beer that's not from a microbrewery. Not saying you, just saying in general.

blue moon is not a craft beer at all
craft beer means it is made in small amounts at a small scale brewery, blue moon is made by coors at one of their giant factories.
which is fine btw, there can be good beer thats not craft beer. one of my favorite beers is just straight up original budweiser from the can, ill always bring a pack when i go camping.

Have been to all the bolded breweries or the breweries that manufacture that beer. Stone has always been a favorite, but the renovation of Ballast Point is pretty awesome. Also was able to get Pliny the Younger at Russian River.
Also, if we're just generalizing stouts as one big category, Old Rasputin on nitro is my favorite.

My favorite style of beer is dark or brown ales. I'm partial to sweet and nutty tastes. I just go to my local brewpub and grab their house brown. Yards is cool if you ever visit Philly. I usually go there and play pool. Lately I've been getting just a regular pale ale and dropping a shot of Frangelico in it to give a much distinct nutty taste. I recommend this to anyone who likes their nut brown ales.
But beer is very seasonal and in the moment. It's also a very acquired taste. I can't hate on anyone for their opinions. I like sessions when playing poker, I like Nut Browns when watching sports, I like Coronas when I'm out partying or travelling south.
But if I can recommend where to get the best beers it's the Pacific Northwest. From Portland to Vancouver Canada. Elysian, Rogue, Deschuttes, Howe Sound and some of the best I've ever tried. Mecca of craft beefs. Maybe it's the water they use, I don't know, but worth the pilgrimage.
