interesting article how involved Microsoft was with Apple in the early days
http://www.mac-history.net/apple/2011-01-30/microsofts-relationship-with-apple
Later Steve Jobs had to ask for the Microsoft BASIC because his friend Wozniak didn’t finish his own version of NASIC for the Apple II. “He was very childlike,” said Jobs later to the author of hi biography, Walter Isaacson, abou “Woz”. “He did a great version of BASIC, but then never could buckle down and write the floating-point BASIC we needed, so we ended up later having to make a deal with Microsoft. He was just too unfocused.”
When Microsoft provided their BASIC for the Apple II, Steve Jobs and Bill Gates constantly ran into each other at that time. “Even before we finished our work on the IBM PC, Steve Jobs came and talked about what he wanted to do, what he thought he could do, sort of a Lisa but cheaper. We said boy, we’d love to help out”, Gates remembers. “The Lisa had all its own applications, but of course they required a lot of memory, ah, and we thought we could do better, and so Steve signed a deal with us to actually provide bundled applications for the first Mac, and so we were big believers in the Mac and what Steve was doing there.”
Apple urgently needed software for the Mac, as there did not yet exist any program for the new system except for their in-house products MacWrite and MacPaint. Gates promised to have the programs Chart and File written for the Mac in addition to the spreadsheet program Excel. Steve Jobs appreciated the risk Microsoft took, but was not content with the first results though. “Most people don’t remember, but until the Mac, Microsoft was not in the applications business… it was dominated by Lotus. And Microsoft took a big gamble to write for the Mac
In June of 1985, Bill Gates sent a remarkable memo to both the then-CEO of Apple, John Sculley, and then-head of Macintosh development, Jean Louis Gass

Very this. Microsoft has used Mac hardware to demo Microsoft products at those huge events Microsoft loves to throw for itself, Windows included.

Music is Paul Allens passion.
He has at least 2,3 major label professional level studios.
At least 10 total.
He records music all the time, has huge bands come over and record in his la studio.
One of them on his 400 foot yacht the octopus.
All of the studios use Macs and pro tools 12.
All of them.
My homie works for him.

Paul Allen has electromagnetism hypersensitivity, so he only uses typewriters.

Mac sells for the software not the specs.. Wouldn't understand why anyone would buy a mac twice the price of a super pc to get subpar specs and use Windows.. Unless you're alternating between both operating systems sure.

For critical use specs tell you nothing. In these cases, it's the reliability of the full system they are concerned about. These folks are video editors who use PC editing software.

Ahh the "specs" that are from crunching numbers.
In the real world, the music industry uses macs because they are far superior doing REAL WORLD programs.
Bottom line.
Can't believe how out of touch with the world this board is.
99% of any studio will have a Mac.
Just YouTube search any major rapper/musician interview from studio and see what computer is in the background.

Yes, Macs are definitely entrenched in the studio industry, but there's a real niche industry and provides no information about the larger PC/MAC debate.

I kno Hella producers and even more djs
Pro tools and serrato, the industry standard in respective fields, only had Mac versions at first
They didn't even bother to make a pc version for a couple years.

Macs are far superior in any real world application. Better for making music; art. Dependable.
Pc s are for yes, gamers that always be complaining on how expensive errythang is cuz they play video games all day at their moms.

I've heard a couple of local musicians saying they use Apple/Mac. Never heard musician say they use PCs unless it's some DJ/mixing software.
Mac = musicians, professionals. Local major newspaper company uses Mac.
PCs = gamers, professionals. Local hospital uses PC.
Personally, I've never owned a Mac.
All djs use macs with serrato.
All.

Why is it so popular with journalists?
Im assuming for the same reasons it's popular with musicians:
Dependability
While not perfect, it is more reliable than a pc. Won't crash as often, freeze, need as much maintenance etc.etc.
The last thing you want is to work on something and the shit crashes on you.
Another reason is 'multi tasking'.

People are gonna diss you for stating that, but geeks spend time and money customizing their cases as well. Other manufacturers spend millions on design to compete.
But what's overlooked is the aesthetics of the UI.
A good looking UI is important specially if you're gonna be using it for extended periods of time. There's studies that prove UI aesthetics play a role in one's computing usage.
Naturally, this isn't the case with everyone, but it does play a role for many.
I don't wanna sit there looking at some ugly piece of shit OS all day.

What?
If you lookin at something for long periods of time, of course the better it looks will just add to it.
Everytime I get on a pc, I can't believe how awful it looks
Terrible.
Edit.
Yea. I meant the way the os looks. Not how the actual computer looks. But Mac looks better in that too.

Is not because of that, there is just more popular music dev software for the Mac than the PC. That and people are sheep when something is cool, which Mac is and PC is not. PC is considered for business people, gamers and nerds while Apple is trendy.
Which is why IPhone sells so much even though the OS has sucked since iOS 7 was released and Samsung iGalaxy is just better right now. Because of trends. That's it.
PC with win10 was proven to run faster on a Mac (by millisecs but still) running El Capitan awhile ago. But no sheeps just tell me Mac are better...
durr durr durr
The only good thing about Mac that there's only one customer support, Apple while with Windows there is some random Manufacturer Customer support. So if it's not hardware and it is software good luck with that.
Doesn't matter in the end. Both sucks. I will stay with the best OS, Linux Mint.

This.
In gamers PC > Mac
In Facebook inc Mac > PC
In Web Design Mac = PC
In the end who cares.
