One of the greatest upsets of all time.

In any sport. Most bookies in Vegas were not taking bets on this.

Huge, shocking upset when it happened but less so in retrospect. Tyson's star started to fade after that.

Most posters here aren't that old but i saw this fight live and i still remember how shocking it was. Me and my friends were talking about this for weeks after, it was a very big deal.

I'll even say this was a top-5 "sports moment" in my life. Boxing was a big deal back then.

F*cking hell, has it been that long? Damn, I'm getting old.

I was only 7 years old but I absolutely remember seeing the replays of Douglas just stunning him with that uppercut, unloading a bunch of rights on him and then landing one more that knocked him down. Then Tyson fumbling for his mouthpiece. I then remember my dad saying "I don't think he's ever been knocked down before."

Tyson should have got Douglas at round 8 but the bell saved Douglas, which was crucial since Tyson had absorbed so many wild punches and was clearly exhausted.

Buster does have pretty good career records; 38 Wins (25 knockouts), 6 Losses, 1 Draw, 1 No Contest.

The guy did also beat two former and future champions in Trevor Berbick and Oliver McCall in order to get his own title shot against Tyson.

but .. tyson actually won that fight .. bd should've been counted out .. douglas got two breaks one right after the other in that round 8 .. that was like a once in a lifetime thing .. probably hasn't happened to anyone before or after .. he got like 4 extra seconds to get his ass up .. and then the knock down came at the end of the round .. talk about luck .. if there was any more time left, he loses even with the fkd up count ..

regardless though, tyson was starting to lose it even before this fight so it was inevitable something like this was going to happen sooner or later

complete and utter nonsense.

You get up to the ref's count. He was up by the count of 9 and clear headed. Always been true in boxing. This was a bullshit point that Don King started to push once his meal ticket got ktfo.

Yeah, it was some miracle that a boxer went down at the end of a round. I remember seeing the heavens open and light pour down. I think I saw doves as the bell rang.

lol@clear headed .. he just got tagged by a tyson uppercut .. of course he was clear headed :hammerhead: .. he was hesitating when trying to get up .. he was fkd up and shaken .. tyson would've finished him off if there was more time left

Meaning not in a fog, not stumbling or weaving like Tyson when he got KO'ed. Tyson got to his feet but had no idea where he was. Buster was ready to fight. He got tagged with a single punch when he went down, it wasn't a barrage that would have left him dazed. Tyson got hit with a few shots on his way down.

You can see him pound the canvas mad at himself aware of the mistake he made. His "hesitating" seems to me to deliberately waiting. Taking as much time as allowed.

AKA, a smart move in boxing.

Tyson would have finished him is not a definite, it's a maybe and, more importantly, it's irrelevant. Boxing takes place within three minute rounds. It's like saying a football team would score 10 points during halftime. Anyway, Tyson had two more rounds to do something and he lost them.

Also if you look at that whole fight, you can say Tyson got in one lucky punch, but otherwise badly lost that fight.

 @ people who think Tyson won that fight or got robbed somehow.

He lost...and he himself acknowledges his own defeat
