Not GOAT era by any means specially with guys like Glen Robinson, Dale Davis, Eddie Jones and Jerry Stackhouse involved but definitely one of the last competitive all-star games before it went to sh!t in the mid 2000's during the beginning of the LeBrick era!
You can start seeing the beginning of the East downturn in this game with their only big guys being Mutombo and Mourning and best perimeter players in chucker Iverson and Wince Carter!
The West on the other hand was LOADED!!! Hell Stockton, Malone, Rasheed and Webber were coming off the bench!

i think 2000 had most legendary players at one time ... tho watered down in the middle and lower tiers due to expansion etc..

That was the 80's imo. That decade featured
Jordan
Magic
Bird
Hakeem
Moses
Dr. J
Malone
Barkley
Isiah
Stockton
By any measure 10 of the 25-30 greatest players of all time

I love how they were actually trying and playing defense, players played with more a chip on their shoulder back then in these type of games.

Not the GOAT era, but the All Star game was entertaining. The ASG has gotten worse and worse so the further back you go the better it seems. Now it's just a 3pt contest..:facepalm .

What strikes me the most is the diversity in personality and play style.
KG - sort of a bad boy, do everything forward
Duncan - calm, composed, Mr. Fundamentals
Shaq - most dominant, most loud personality
Vince - showman, tune in for a show
AI - David vs Goliath, first combo-guard
Kidd - true pass first point guard, only one on Magic level in pure passing
Mutombo - the big African Mount Mutombo, defensive juggernaut
Kobe - new MJ on the block
And that's just some of them.
How can anyone claim today's 'stars' are anywhere near as interesting playing wise or personality wise. They're all clones of each other's lame swag culture and lame 3-and-dish play style.

They can't. Their beta mindsets don't allow them learn such things.
It's analogous to what can be seen at your average work place. A bunch of beta 20-25 year olds waiting to be told what to do by your average alpha mindset 35+ year olds.
When I was 20-25, we figured out our own solutions instead of asking the 35+ guy for the solution unlike today's typical workplace.

This is a misguided blanket statement if there ever were one.
