Joe Johnson would join the Cavaliers if bought out by the Nets, reports Chris Haynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

To become a free agent, Johnson, 34, would have to have his $25 million salary for this season bought out. If Brooklyn decides to buy out Johnson's contract, Cleveland would be his first choice, Haynes reports.

Players must be bought out and sign with a new team by March 1 in order to be eligible to play in the playoffs. Cleveland has two open roster spots.

JJ is past his prime, but he's going to be a solid scorer off the bench. He might play the Ray Allen role for the Cavaliers.

This

Cavs now have a deeper bench compared to last season. The Big 3 needs to be healthy. And they are going to kick some @$$ in the playoffs.

This is definitely a piggyback situation. As another poster stated, Joe is past his prime and never really was an A-list player capable of leading a team to a championship. So now he wants to shortcut his way to a title.

I don't see why the Nets would do this. They don't have a pick so there's no point in tanking, they don't have money issues so there's no point in paying the taxes or ISO Joe salary, and they don't have young talent who could benefit from having Joe's minutes. (Rondae Hollis-Jefferson can play along JJ)
But they did bought out Bargs so what do I know?

He would be a great fit. But damn that's a stacked roster. Without Lebron they would be the East favorites.

What are they going to do with him?
Contenders need to stop signing old players and thinking they'd do anything.

JJ is a clutch player and can create his own shot. Other than lebron and maybe kyrie everyone else relies on lebrons playmaking. Johnson would give a break from that and could chip in a couple of points when the offense gets stagnant.

They did for Iguodala.

I don't think Joe Johnson can have quite that kind of impact, because he doesn't have quite as much left in the tank and his defense probably isn't on that level. But, Iggy was certainly a guy who most people thought had his best days behind him before he got to Golden State.

Johnson would be asked to do a lot less and wouldn't have nearly the amount of weight he's been playing with on his shoulders in Brooklyn. I think he would have the potential to be a pretty damn good role player off the bench.

So just because a player was an all-star in the past, he is automatically supposed to be a great help to the team in the present? If we put 100 years old ''all-star'' Bill Russell on the Cavs, will you complain about Lebron having too many all-stars on his team?

This.

I think chances are NBA players would know who can make you look better and who make your game easier better than some internet posting idiots.

I don't think Joe Johnson will help a lot though. He can't defend, and his 3 point shooting is getting worse as he loses his legs and elevation.

Lebron23

He just needs to accept the Ray Allen circa 2013-14 if he joins the Cavaliers. JJ is lacking some motivation with the Nets, and he only play good basketball once in a blue moon.

He's still a good 3 points shooter. If he plays with the Cavaliers they have another decent playmaker whenever Kyrie and LeBron sits on the bench.

Mo Williams knee is bothering him.

http://www.cleveland.com/cavs/index.ssf/2016/02/mo_williams_will_visit_dr_james.html#incart_river_ index

That's why it makes too much sense if the Cavaliers sign Joe Johnson. JJ is a point forward.

The 12-year veteran was unable to play in Sunday's 115-92 road win over the Oklahoma City Thunder. Matthew Dellavedova was the only point guard available the entire game with Kyrie Irving exiting in the first quarter with flu-like symptoms.

Williams will fly back home with the team for Monday's game against the Detroit Pistons before his Andrews visit. He is unlikely to play.

He started the season slow, but his shooting was great in January. Cavs gonna win the ship.

We are currently Spurs tier. Coach Lue needs to watch the Blazers, and Warriors game. And they need Green to commit 9 turnovers.

I think a motivated and healthy Kyrie can matchup with Steph.
