gangsta rap is one facet of a very diverse genre and has seen its popularity severely decline. now it's more popular to rap about using drugs than selling them. but rap is influenced by society, not the other way around. rappers aren't really creating trends for regular people to follow in real life. it's society doing it and rappers just delivering it on a larger, more accessible scale.

I think you're suggesting the art imitates reality more so than
reality imitating art... And I'm saying it's probably about equal.

trends and fashions are started within the industry more than
ever now. People worship their idols. So if you're a young
impressionable 15 year old kid that idolizes 50 cent... chances
are you are going down the wrong path quicker than somebody
who's idols promote a more positive type of lifestyle.

If our children avoid idolizing hip-hop artist that promote
a "worldly type of living"... well, not only is that in our best interest...
but especially for young white kids that try to imitate the culture when they live
in a completely different world.

Trust me... the music, just like that death-metal garbage... has
an influence on us more than realize... because that influence
exists on the SUBCONSCIOUS level.
