Consider this...
Since Jan. 4 (22 games), JR Smith is shooting 43.9% from three on 8 attempts per game. To give you an idea of how good that is, in the same span, Klay Thompson is shooting 40.3% from three on about the same number of attempts.
Only Steph Curry has a higher percentage since the end of December, and JR is on his heels (-2.3%).

JR is a catch and shoot sniper

Uber athleticism and knockdown shooter

It really is true that he thrives as a 4th/5th option
Serves a specific function
I feel like frye is going to find the same success specializing a role

you can't rely on JR to be a consistent contributor night in and night out
he can win you games you shouldn't of won when he goes off though
he is the wild card

He has been very consistent this year. In fact, he was very consistent last year when he was the 4th/5th option as he is now. It's when the injuries started piling up and the Cavs needed him to be more than just a 3&D player that he went off the rails.
As long as the Cavs are healthy, JR is a nasty weapon to have on your basketball team.

that would be a crazy lineup if lebron was younger and still had enough in the tank for herculean type of defensive lifting
with old bron that line up is pretty damn weak defensively

Advanced metrics show Frye is even more of a value as a defensive player than he is an offensive marksman. I haven't watched him enough to say either way, but he's very long and seems to have a pretty high bball IQ.

I havn't seen a lot of him lately to be honest. I was going off of what I have seen with the old JR.
That is good for him though I am glad he is doing well.

He is long but his footspeed is questionable. With Love at the 4 and Frye at the 5 they could use a good help defender. This is where LeBron could come in and fill that roll but like I said with his advanced age I'm not sure if he has enough in the tank to exert that type of energy on defense for long stretches anymore.
