Who knows the rules as far as trades and failed physicals?

So, I have been reading how Channing Frye has this heart condition and he has not passed his physical yet. How is this possible? I always thought the rules were, nobody can play or do anything until EVERYONE has passed the physical? Because the trade gets declined. So, how is Varejao inking deals with GS and Frye has not yet passed his physical?

Varejao was a seperate trade

If Frye failed they would get the draft pick and Cunningham back

All players in the involved trade must pass their physicals with their new team for the trade to be completed. I believe there is a 72 hour window for this to happen. Also no player can play/be activated until all the players pass their physicals.
