But that a camel-merchant should stir up insurrection in his village; that in league with some miserable followers he persuades them that he talks with the angel Gabriel; that he boasts of having been carried to heaven, where he received in part this unintelligible book, each page of which makes common sense shudder; that, to pay homage to this book, he delivers his country to iron and flame; that he cuts the throats of fathers and kidnaps daughters; that he gives to the defeated the choice of his religion or death: this is assuredly nothing any man can excuse, at least if he was not born a Turk, or if superstition has not extinguished all natural light in him.

He's also quoted as saying "Christianity is the most ridiculous, the most absurd and bloody religion that has ever infected the world".

(Not sure where this one came from, but there's enough evidence out there that he despised Christianity)

I like to live in a world where you can say both things.

Voltaire was always a tad literal-minded. He clearly didn't understand the philosophy of Leibniz, for example (which he parodied rather poorly in Candide).

Also, Rasselas>>Candide.

Has the ever been a comment about about islam that wasn't immediately followed up by somebody interjecting with "well, Christianity is bad too"?

It's like people think that the only context in which the topic of islam can exist is as a competition between Christianity and Islam.

It is the #1 deflection tactic of Islamic terrorist apologists.

Napoleon Bonaparte on ISLAM;

I hope the time is not far off when I shall be able to unite all the wise and educated men of all the countries and establish a uniform regime based on the principles of Quran which alone are true and which alone can lead men to happiness.

Napoleon liked conquering and ruling over people. If that's a real quote, it's not a shocker that he would like the Quran.

he also was a highly educated man who's legacy is still strongly felt in Europe.

brought education to the poor where as before only the rich could get an education and many other things like a free economy.

it also said the Quran influenced the Napoleonic Code which in turn influenced many middle eastern states to change their own set of laws.

keep hatin tho, bitch.

No it isn't. Napoleonic code is a slightly revised version of Roman law. It has nothing to do with islam. Roman law existed before there was an islam.

Napoleon was considered the Hitler of the world before Hitler came around and stole the title. He rose to fame by firing cannons in to a crowd of civilians in Paris. It is very telling that he is a champion of Islam.

Ok so whining about competition between Christianity and Islam on a frigging basketball forum, when mankind history is bloodstained by the competition between Christianity and Islam, is not dumb at all, not at all.

Islam is a religion founded and spread by violence and conquest. Mohammad, the creator of Islam was a war monger who lead military campaigns where he forced people to convert to Islam by the sword.

Islam has more blood on its hands than Christianity. And slavery is still practiced in Muslim countries. There are more slaves today in Muslim countries than there ever were in America.

Moses was gifted special knowledge wisdom and judgment on behalf of his consistent righteous conduct and adherence to God. As were all the prophets.

Voltaire was an incredibly intellectually arrogant individual, calling a peasant woman beneath an animal because she was practical and present in the moment while kissing the ads of a learned Brahmin, whom both would ponder ponder ponder but get nowhere fast. He's basically all wit no real substance.
If human beings are mirrors then he'd be one with much rust and a glitter and pompous exterior.

contrary to a Thomas aquinas or an imam ghazali or a Hume

His end verdict yielded very little legitimate insights while neglecting the fundamental pieces of wisdom/guidance that guided actual wise man since the beginning of time.

The Quran states that those who regard the ones before them with faith as fools are the actual fools but they know it not.

They literally lack knowledge of God and therefore the human being and in their hearts are a disease which they through a lack of Godly virtues have led themselves astray.

It makes sense that a human being who previously came out with gems like "Herp derp if there's a God why would be give two sh1ts about us (look up Youngs posts)" aka deficiency in knowledge of God would spent hours bashing on an established path meant to garner closeness between created man and Creator Allah.

This same person who all he has to do us say abs mean "iyakka nabudu wa iyyaka nestain" (to You we seek help and to You we seek guidance from). Instead he chooses to look to ignorant but heroic mortals like Churchill and Voltaire instead of Yahweh to come to conclusions.

Name a Muslim country that Christians conquered and forced the people to convert to Christianity.

Yahweh created Voltaire, bro, as well as the language that Voltaire spoke. Voltaire is literally speaking the word of God.

That is most definitely true. He had no humility. Big difference between him and a figure like Hume.

:yaohappy:

Let's not pretend you know anything about history brah.

Warfare: not known to mankind until the twin evils of Christianity and Islam struck--amirite? Mankind was a race of fluffy bunnies before these evil religions came to the forefront; the Iliad was actually proto-Christian Bible, didn't you know?

What agenda? Voltaire hates all religions equally. I am glad that he had the freedom to express his opinions on Islam as well as other religions with out being murdered.
