Rape accusation.

It's the reason the media hates him.

Everyone knows he's top 5 all time, at worst, but they go out of their way to try and prove he isn't.

Nothing in there seemed like hate and in fact she gave him a huge compliment

And I said this before I even read the article.

Now that i've read it, here's a snippet...

I don't know what she reported in 2004 (regarding the rape trial) that Bryant may have disagreed with so it's tough to comment from that standpoint. All things considered, I'd assume a lot of the stuff the media was throwing out that year regarding the Colorado incident was probably pretty wacky and heavily over-saturated.

I mean, it was a big, unavoidable story, but I could see how that could have strained Bryant's relationship with many members of the media, even if he brought it on himself to a certain degree.

That said, I see where she's coming from in regards to the skepticism of Bryant's random over-niceness this year. I fully admit that I'm watching from afar and I could be incredibly wrong, but a lot of Bryant's media persona has always felt artificial. And I know many athletes are artificial, but his always felt kind of obvious, like an extreme version of "fake it 'til you make it".

People joke and sneer about how Bryant supposedly just tried to bite and copy Jordan for his entire career—and even if true, might as well copy arguably the greatest player of all-time—but it sometimes seemed to be at the expense of actually being himself. It seems he's had a way he wishes to be perceived his entire career and made himself act in a certain way to get those desired results, even if it just meant imitating someone else or acting out emotions that may have not been truly that intense.

Or I could just be 100% off the mark.

From what I recall, Shelly was basically taking the accusers side in the 2003 sexual assault allegations and her reporting on the incident reflected that. Seems like she (and ESPN collectively) had a vendetta against Kobe that season, or they were just doing it for ratings. I don't blame Kobe for being pissed at her.

Spot on.

Every athlete needs to know how to handle the media well.
Kobe did not do that during his early years.
I call this the Barry Bonds effect.

but we all remember how badly he treated a lot of us.

and people wonder why we say the media hates Kobe.

These are the people who vote for MVP and now the all defensive team awards, these guys, who clearly hold grudges for over 10 years, are the people voting for awards

This girl still hates Kobe because she wrote some stuff he didn't agree with and he said he would never talk to her again.. she is still mad about this 10 years later.. imagine how they felt in the mid 2000's if they are still holding a grudge to this day.

their job as a journalist is to be as unbiased as possible, not to hold grudges and use personal bias when reporting on players..

This is why I don't take MVP's, FMVP's or any kind of ALL NBA award seriously. It is just a popular vote and doesn't really prove anything.
