View Full Version : Joe Johnson Criticism

So while driving to work {listening to the radio}, the topic of the Joe Johnson signing comes up which is met with overwhelming criticism. One of the hosts goes on to bash him for not employing the safe bet and signing with Cleveland and asserts how him signing with Miami was completely foolish on his part. It is argued that he only signed with Miami because it is a coveted geographical destination and with Bosh now being questionable, makes even less sense from a competitive standpoint.

As sports fans, we often throw shade at players who chase rings, yet in this case JJ seems to be experiencing media backlash for doing quite the opposite. Is the fact that he's a ringless veteran make ring chasing a less hostile endeavor?

Anyhow... Is the criticism warranted/deserved? Or do you respect JJ more for not jumping ship to what is arguably a free pass to the finals?

No it's borderline retarded. Joe Johnson is free to play wherever he wants. No need to justify it.

What a douche. If JJ wants to make millions in South Beach instead of Cleveland, he should.

Shump and jr would both be ahead of him in the depth chart for the cavs.

so unless he took some of RJs minutes at the three he wasnt gonna play much.

i wish he would have joined the cavs, ive always liked his style, but i respect him more for wanting to actually play, than just ride the bench and hope a ring falls into his lap. the criticism is dumb.

It makes sense, ESPECIALLY if Bosh is finished for the season. 80 degrees to finish the season, getting way more PT than in Cleveland to audition for his last contract.

Can't be iso Joe with two of the biggest iso players in the league in Cleveland. He wants to win but he also wants to damn play.

Different people have different priorities when it comes to where they play. Shocking.

I figured this was about his poor defense and efficiency. I have no problem with him going to Miami.

If he feels that the Heat give him a better opportunity, he should be able to do it. Who knows maybe he didn't want to become a 3 point shooter under the LeBron system. :lol

Why would they care what he does? I don't know where you live tho.

The Cavs fans whining is a little embarrassing (btw, not referring to ISH here). The sense of entitlement in some of these guys. Especially for a fan of a team that hasn't won shit. Ever. It's on par with fans of a blue blood wishing bad on a high school kid for choosing another school. Disgusting people.

Not everyone wants the same things as you. Not everyone views things the same way as you. Just shut the **** up and take the L. Maybe it's a blessing in disguise, for all you know.

If the Cavs or OKC signed him the media would be slobbering all over the move

But now that he's signed with a team that the scummy media at E!SPN is biased against, the narrative is that he's a worthless scrub, not a real winner, etc etc.

disregarding the fact that this is bullshit. What does it have to do with the question that the OP has raised?

This.

JJ is bidding for one last payday and come playoff time you have to expect that rotations will condense. While he might win a championship with the Cavs, his role would possibly be minuscule, thus hindering his market value in the off season. In Miami, he gets guaranteed playing time, while temporarily residing in a coveted geographical destination. The move makes sense (and dollars) to me.

Cavs would be an awful fit, but so will Heat imho. Weak off ball game and spacing issues.

To some degree people wanted Joe Johnson to go Cleveland to increase the chances of a more competitive NBA Finals and make the Finals more interesting. Not necessarily Cavs fans, but NBA fans as a whole.

Maybe Joe doesn't like the cleveland organization?

Maybe he doesn't like what happened to Blatt, and LeBron controlling just about everything in the organization. Maybe he doesn't want to get blamed for not gettin Cavs a championship.... OR Maybe he just likes Miami as a place to live in. Not every NBA player is ring chasing. Playing in the NBA is a dream come true already and a Championship is not going to define a play like Joe Johnson.

:biggums: Biased against?
No one at ESPN gives a shit about the Heat. Your team is completely irrelevant, and has been ever since Lebron left. Talk about delusions of grandeur :lol

He doesnt care about winning. He only cares about money. Nothing wrong with it but it is what it is. It was obvious when he accepted that ridiculous max offer from Atlanta. He should have taken a lesser deal to have a chance to win a ring

If he feels that the Heat give him a better opportunity, he should be able to do it.

Of course he can do it. But it also explains the outrage. How is that a better opportunity?

For JJ, his next contract and the ability to have a substantial role was more important than winning with a smaller role. Here is a guy who many would say has been the most overpaid player in the league for the better part of the last decade, has ~195m in career earnings and he STILL didn't prioritize winning.

JJ left Pho when they were a title contender to get a bigger role with a lesser team. He demanded his offer sheet not be matched (Pho ended up completing a SnT). Keep in mind, he was getting shots and avg 17ppg. Winning just hasn't ever been important to him. Last year Paul Pierce BLASTED DWill and JJ for not wanting to practice, but also not wanting to PLAY.

We put so much on winning and here is a guy who just doesn't care about winning and has repeatedly chosen to walk away from winning situations for a higher usage rate. THAT is why there is outrage.

Maybe JJ has some enormous charitable plan and can do a lot of good with the money. But from here it looks like he is a selfish player out for his.

Lol at this Lebron Stan melting down.

Not everyone aspires to be a spot up shooter for LeBron. Sorry, buddy.

Yeah, this just seems to be the melting of a bunch of immature Lebron ass-suckers.
