One of my favorite basketball gifs of all time. Trying to score on Eaton was like trying to score against a giant oak tree. :lol

The GOAT caught him slipping doe (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhdMHcI2dRo) :pimp:

Goes to show what a beast David Robinson was...he has 2954 in 987 games...Duncan needed 1375 games to get 3000. If not for the fact that Big Dave missed an entire season of his prime in 97 and didn't come into the league till 24 because of the Navy...he'd easily be on this list and possibly leading it.

It's a nice feat...but Duncan isn't even close to being one of the greatest shot blockers of all time...he never even once averaged 3.0bpg or more...this is purely because of longevity. Kareem is up there for the same reason. Mutombo's longevity got him there too...but that's more because he didn't even come into the league till he was 25 so had a very short prime...he was a great shot blocker.

Best part about it is that he got his 3000th block on James Harden

Guys like Drob and Hakeem were athletic freaks of nature and were like pogo sticks (they could jump without gathering). The same was said about Bill Russell.

Duncan is more of a pick your spot guy when it comes to blocked shots. He alters a lot of shots but due to his more limited athleticism, he just can't block numbers like Hakeem and Drob. He's more similar to Wilt who did not have the same "springiness" of Bill Russell.

Hakeem Olajuwon and David Robinson are pretty easily the two greatest defensive players of the modern era. (80 to now) Yes they were great athletes...but that's just absurd to say that it's athleticism that allowed them to be all time great shot blockers. Mutombo doesn't have close to the athleticism they do and nor does Alonzo Mourning...but they were both great shot blockers too. Hakeem and Robinsons's impact goes way beyond the blocked shots...it's their terrific basketball IQ's mixed with their mobility, great timing, etc that made them so dominant. Ben Wallace is the only one to come close to being as dominant as these two were, but his window was also much shorter.

Of course not. They had great timing as well and were great defensive players beyond just blocking shots.

But their inherent athleticism gave them a huge advantage when it comes to sheer volume of blocked shots. Even if Duncan had the same sense of timing (which he has), most of the time, he would just alter shots instead of blocking them due to not having the same leaping ability.

Again...that's not true as Mutombo and Zo were both up there too in their primes and neither are close to being the athletes Big Dave and Dream are. Duncan was just never an all time great shot blocker, PERIOD. He's good and he's one of these 5 purely because of longevity...that's just a fact. A guy who never averaged 3bpg on the top 5 all time bpg? A guy who has 50 more than Robinson, but has played 400 more games? lol...that's purely longevity.

I'm not saying Duncan isn't one of the greatest defensive players in the league either...but he's not even close to being an all time great shot blocker. I'm sorry, but he only reached 3000 because he's been around so long...a guy who never even averaged 3bpg is not an all time great shot blocker.
