View Full Version : The dumbest opinion of the year is Barkley saying Leonard is best player

Barkley saying Kawhi Leonard was the best player multiple times over the past few months is one of the most embarrassing things I've ever heard an "expert" say.
It was funny two months ago, but over the past two weeks it's gotten even more hilarious, as Curry has cemented this season as a top 10 regular season ever, and Durant, Lebron, Westbrook, and Anthony Davis have been playing very good as well.
Furthermore, about a week ago, the Spurs improved to 4-1 without Kawhi. Meanwhile, last night, OKC couldn't even handle 5 minutes without Durant, and today Cleveland looks like a lottery team without Lebron.

He is not elite offensively.
He leads the league in 3P%, is one of the best post players in the league and could possibly end up in the 50/40/90 club after this season. Tell me more how he is not elite.

More of his shots are created by others than basically any other all-star.
This can be further seen by the fact that he averages only 2.5 assists himself. He does not create much on offense, for a star. He is the recipient of the creators on his team.

Korver also had great percentages last season and he wasn't elite. 20.5 ppg with 2.4 apg is not elite.

I don't agree with Barkley, but it's one of those where I don't feel a need to call him out.
Kawhi is one of the best players in the league..and excels at both ends of the court.
Someone wants to say he's better than Curry? Go ahead.

%Assisted on 2PA compared to other elite offensive players:
Kawhi Leonard: .460
Stephen Curry: .388
Kevin Durant: .520
LeBron James: .361
It's another story in terms of 3PA, but Kawhi only takes about 3 a game.

Really, Korver? Korver did not else but spotting up. Kawhi on the other hand ranks in the 94th percentile on post ups. 21 points per game on only 14 shots is not elite?

Nope. When he starts to dominate the games offensively like Durant, Curry, Lebron, then he will be elite.

im so excited to watch the kawhi - curry duell in the playoffs

He is up there with Durant and is far more efficient than James. Not elite.

When he takes over games offensively like Durant and Curry did last night or like Lebron did in the finals last year, we will call him elite. Until then, he is good, but far from elite.

So he just has to take a lot of dumb, low efficiency shots like James did in the '15 finals in order for you to consider him elite? Hilarious take.

It's not only about efficiency. Lebron took over the games offensively by controling the pace, with his playmaking and his scoring. Leonard can't do that. Elite offensive players like Durant, Curry can do that.

Context. What James did in the 2015 finals in terms of controlling the pace, was backing down, backing down, backing down on the block, like he was Mark Jackson reincarnated.
And I get why he did that, because he had no team, but that isn't the discussion here.

It worked, they won 2 games against Warriors without those of their starters.
When Kawhi does something like that, we'll talk.
Elite= top 5
Leonard is not top 5 offensively:
Lebron, Curry, Durant, Paul, Westbrook are clearly all better than him offensively.

Alright, we'll talk when Kawhi takes about 200 shots (not counting free throws) in a span of 6 games on very low efficiency, which is apparently considered elite.

love kawhi's skills as much as the next fan, and think he's underrated by some overrated by others... but Barkley is dumb... Yeah even a broken clock is right twice a day, but don't take anything Charles says seriously. He's done it to himself, shot his credibility that is

Yeah, if someone wants to say that Kawhi Leonard is having a better season right now than Curry, which also means he's having a better season than peak Magic, peak Bird, peak Lebron, peak Hakeem, and peak Duncan, they can go right ahead.
And if they want to do that, they might as well say that current Paul George is better than peak Bird and all of them too. And maybe even Jimmy Butler while we are at it.

He was talking about starting a franchise, due to hi age. While picking Steph as the best offensive player in the world. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNcN46iMXqQ
Sounds reasonable, even if most would not agree with it. But that's the scary thing about human communication, that a person says one thing, and then the next person interprets it as if they said it the day after Curry had the best game of the season.

I see.
And that's because it's Charles and he isn't the best speaker.
At other times, he fails to mention that he isn't talking about best player period. There's a big difference and if that's what he is talking about he needs to make it more clear. Not sure why i was expecting Charles to be clear, but I guess that is my fault.
And even in this very video, he only mentions it very lightly the end.

Barkley has it out for the Warriors for whatever reason. I remember last season he said the Warriors weren't even a top 4 team in the West..and this was like 3 months into the season when the they had the best record by far.

Leonard's progression to elite is on track and he will get there no doubt, but Steph is in rare air right now and playing some of the greatest and most consistent ball in history .....
