Can the glove shut Curry down?

How would this match up go under new school and old school rules?

Nobody can shut Curry down.

Old timers want to boast about handchecking? Let's see Payton and Stockton try to run through those moving screens Bogut and Green set for Curry. They'll get embarrassed, especially Stockton's frail white bitchass.

I don't know about "shut down", but I think he will do one hell of a job on Curry. He has the perfect tool set to shut down any PG.

1st of all, he was amazing at denying the ball. Ask Michael Jordan in 1996 Finals, who also is great at movement obviously off the ball even in 96. He would blanket Jordan like a cornerback guarding a WR making Jordan work before he even touched the ball. This is effective at tiring out a player before he touches the ball which affects the rest of his offensive game (less energy to shoot & drive).

2nd, he had enough quickness to stay up with anyone. He had some of the best lateral movement and speed I've seen at PG. Not only were his feet fast, but so were his hands. This made it a nightmare for other PGs to go up against.

Then there is the length and size. Payton, at 6'4, was also big enough to guard PGs in the post, but that's not really a problem with stopping Curry. But the extra length would help a little bit in contesting the 3pt shots. If you also allow hand-checking and allow him to play physical, more problems for Curry.

Lastly, the constant trash talking. Payton also was great at playing the mental part of the defensive games, and if he could get inside Curry's head, I mean any distraction, the better.

Overall, I think with Payton's relentless ball denying defense, and then that extra speed and length once Curry catches the ball while being allowed to play more physical than what Curry see's today, he could do a lot of damage. Nonetheless, I agree a good team defensive effort is needed to stop Curry, and I think the 96 Sonics (Payton was DPOY that season) were capable of it. They had some of the best perimeter defense in NBA history with Karl's trapping schemes and just great overall team defense.

Not to mention, players basically handcheck Curry anyway.

Look at how handsy Chris Paul gets with him every time they meet. And do the officials call 'handchecking'? Absolutely not.

Curry is UNGUARDABLE. People need to stop asking if someone from some era could stop him.

You can't stop someone that can literally make it from anywhere inside the half court line. He is a 67% threat from 28 feet to HALF COURT. And that's with people in his jersey!

Do you realize how insane that is?

NO one can stop him. No one.

I don't think it would matter, considering the screens

If anything, the big man hedging the P and R would be more critical to defending Curry

NO one can stop him. No one.Yeah, when he's on his game and his teammates are doing their proper jobs as well (in terms of springing him off of screens or adequately delivering the ball once he loses a defender on a backdoor cut), I truly question if there's much of anything any defender in history could do to put the clamps on this guy.

Moreover, Curry takes and makes a lot of shots that'd be deemed as "contested" or "contained" for most players throughout history. That's one of the crazy things. There's a lot of times where lockdown defense just isn't good enough. When he's in his groove, as he often is, virtually any defender may be at his mercy.

That said, maybe he'll come down from the nutso shooting run he's been on this past year or two and he'll eventually be a little more stoppable. But as of right this very moment, I know it's clich

The game is designed to give the edge to the offensive player due to the rules. Saying "no defender can shut me down" in basketball isn't impressive in a game with such high scoring and offensive advantage. Just look at how high the scores are at the end of the game.

Now if someone in hockey or soccer can make this claim and score at will in a game where the sum of the final scores rarely exceeds 10 points, then we may have something to talk about.....

Baron Davis could shut down Curry. Prime Boom Dizzle was an elite defensive PG.

Curry is so hard to guard because he can beat you off the drive and shoot. So you can't cheat a certain way like you can do with more limited players by crowding or playing off. I would personally crowd him and not give up the 3 and get physical with him. As great as he is, he does have a slight build. Maybe all that physicality can affect his rhythm. Playing off would mean 3s all day. Playing the happy medium distance would still mean a lot of 3s given his quick release.

Payton is about as qualified as anyone to make it tough on Curry. It would've been fun to watch. But as someone mentioned in another thread, I would've loved to seen Mugsy Bogues just bother the hell out of Curry.

lOOK AT JASON KIDD'S OUTSIDE 3 POINT SHOT STROKE , AND THEN LOOK AT CURRYS SHOOT.

Curry release point is supposed to have a release point like all professionals above your head , but his release point is actually at chin to top of head point.

Like so many ex- NBA players stated , getting into Currys grill EVERY second , will stop the Warriors from a ring.

GP would be as good on Curry as anybody, but no, he would not shut him down.

I'd put prime Moncrief on Curry. Two time DPOY, 6'4, Wade-like athleticism, long arms.

Matthew Dellavadova and Kyrie Irving made this man look like a poor man's Dell Curry in back to back finals.

The Glove would treat Scurry like he was Nicole Brown and GP was The Juice.

Been watching too much of OJ: Made in America. :lol
