If these two men became US citizens, which bubble would they fill in on the US census?

Latino doesn't really make sense as an ethnicity unless it refers strictly to mestizos.
Even counting them, I'm pretty sure Latinos will eventually be seen as "white" (ie part of the dominant ethnic group) at some point. In fact if I'm not mistaken this was the case in the past. Mexicans I believe were classified as white until the 20th century.
I've always found it particularly interesting how Latinos, who are essentially a crossover between a white European (the most typical background in the US) and a Native American (the guys who used to make up the population of the continent until Europeans stole their land) are suddenly perceived to be "foreign" and exotic.
I wouldn't be surprised if tomorrow's Latinos end up being less discriminated against than today's Italian Americans.

"Mestizos" are not Latin. They're partially Latin and partially Native American.

Precisely.

white .. I've come across some cubans who I would have sworn were hicks from kentucky .. before they opened their mouths ..
culturally is another question I guess .. they might not be seen as 'white' by american whites because of the culture difference but they're racially white no doubt

It is only identity politics obsessed social justice Demtards who believe this.
Where I grew up in LA, hispanic latinos were always the overwhelming majority-yet they were still classified as "minorities" and enjoyed all of the benefits associated with being a "minority" in America.

A large portion of the Cuban people are of entirely or mostly Spanish ancestry.
Spain is a mish mash of different ethnicities, that's why some are blonde with blue eyes and some are "dark" like Antonio Banderas or Enrique Iglesias for example. Spanish people could have any one or a mixture of Roman, Mediterranean, Visigothic (Germanic), Celtic, Berber, Arabic, Sephardic Jewish, Romani etc blood.
Interesting fact, the Irish and to a certain extant the Scottish are closely related to the Spanish people, especially the Northern Spaniards because the Celts inhabited Spain before settlling in Ireland.
On a personal note, my mom was white, blonde and blue eyed. When we lived in Chicago, white Americans couldn't believe she was Mexican because of the stereotype. I didn't really find it unusual because she just my mom and most of my cousins in Mexico on my mom's side were white so to my it was normal. It was only when I grew older and realized Americans have this stereotype of all Mexicans being very Native American looking.
Speaking of hicks, there are lots of small impoverished towns in certain parts of Mexico where the people can pass as southern rednecks because they are pure descendants of Spaniards and French, they call them in Spanish "g

:facepalm
I've already explained this to you. The migration from norther Spain/Basque region happened thousands of years before "Celts" existed. Celts are a CULTURAL group, not a racial/genetic group.
Yes the people of northern Spain/Basque region and the people of the British isles genetically are more closely related to each other than they are with other Europeans. You're exactly right about that. But you're getting the chronology backwards.

Anthropologists called them Celtiberians, go take it up with them :confusedshrug:
My DNA results showed that I have ancestral ties to the British Isles, no one in my family knows of an Irishman or a British dude in our family tree so I deduced it to Celtiberian ties by way of my great grandmother who was from Asturias, which is in Northern Spain.
