....had he not chosen to run in 2012. If not for the GOP's desperation to get Obama out of office after his first term, Romney could have sat out and easily kept his momentum over the past few years and blown this weak panel of candidates out of the water....on both sides.

He's got to be thinking this.

His binders of women quote is nothing compared to what Trump said, yet hurt his campaign more.

Give him all of the media attacks and spin Trump is subjected to on a 24/7 basis and he'd have dropped out by now. OP is a lunatic for comparing this neocon shill to Trump.

I think it's more of a comparison to Cruz, Kasich and Rubio. Romney basically is what the party establishment expects from Rubio, only that Rubio lacks the experience, eloquence and is a pure Beta, whereas Romney was an Alpha and had the necessary credentials.

Romney was the most electable GOP candidate in the last 3 elections. He was a much better choice than Trump or McCain. Level headed, fair, smart, good looking, accomplished in both private and public sector. I probably don't agree with the OP on much, but I do on this.

He was is no shape or form a better choice then McCain.

Romeny was a born ultra rich Mormon who implemented Obamacare's predecessor in Mass. He's a goofball.

McCain was a warhero with years of service in the Senate and truly was a "maverick" in the sense that he often thumbed his nose at the republican party.
It's just too bad he sold his soul once he ran for POTUS and let the GOP destroy his campaign and credibility with that nimrod Sarah Palin.

Maybe not a better choice, but more electable in the current state of the US.

Seriously, do you guys not remember how unpopular Romney was? If the Republicans had anyone decent to prop up against Obama, they would have beaten Obama, who wasn't at all popular either.

Instead they picked a rich mormon with a stigma of looking down/ not caring about poor people. Bad move.

Webb or Kasich would have won this election in a landslide if they had more support from their respective parties and the media wasn't actively shutting them out from the discussion.

Minus the Mormon religion, how is that different from Trump?

Yes. How dare he suggest that they have so many resumes of highly qualified women that they could fill many binders. Truly a disgusting sexist thing to suggest that so many women are qualified for high profile jobs.

Trump seems far more popular among the poor. It's like the opposite to Romney:

It's a shame he's a terrible politician...

I've always secretly thought he might be a good president (even though I'm a radical leftist by American standards)

Sure, he campaigned on standard republican fare, and made himself look silly more than once by pandering to the crazies...

But if you look at the man's competence, character, the way he carries himself...

He's the sort of guy you'd trust to not completely screw things up if you gave him a position of authority. It's just difficult for me to imagine a future universe where a President Romney ended up causing the ultimate decline and destruction of the United States.

If being born rich is a knock, then how's marrying a woman with tremendous wealth to help you climb up politically ala John Kerry, Bill Clinton? Only difference is, McCain tossed his wife aside like trash to marry an ultra rich heiress. You seem to like him only for tendency to piss off the GOP establishment, but Romney worked across the aisle even more than McCain. Obviously being a war hero is a huge feather in his hat and to recognized and commended forever but it does not make up for his lack of intelligence. Remember McCain graduated 894th out of 899 naval academy graduates.

Sh!t just got real.

Mitt Romney plans to deliver a major speech on the state of the 2016 race for the White House Thursday, amid rising panic among some Republican leaders that Donald Trump may be cruising to the nomination.

The 2012 Republican presidential nominee will speak at 11:30 a.m. ET from the University of Utah. Exactly what Romney will say was not immediately clear, though there were no signs that Romney would either endorse a candidate or jump into the race himself.

Romney considered another White House run at the beginning of 2015 before deciding against the move, reportedly after being out-raised by former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush -- who has since suspended his campaign.

Despite his decision not to run, there has been widespread media speculation that he could be tempted back into the race in the case of a contested Republican convention as a last gasp way to stop Trump.
