Assuming OKC doesn't go on a miracle run in the playoffs, Durant might figure that he can't win a title in OKC with the team the Warriors have now, and the front office hasn't really put a good enough team around him and Westbrook since trading away Harden.
Assuming the Cavs don't pull off a great finals, Lebron might be thinking he just doesn't have the right team to beat the Warriors, and he's on the other side of 30. So time to stack championships is running out.
Maybe Durant seriously considers the Warriors. But the other option would be for him and Lebron to team up somewhere, assuming the right team has enough cap space.

its futile to collude at this time (what a time) gsw are gonna take their chips regardless. You build 4 the future 4 when they decline and enjoy the curry show

Nope because neither wants to play heavy minutes at power forward.

Lebron is a worse version of Westbrook at this point. Durant would never be that stupid, especially when he has a chance at easy street by signing with the Warriors.

Say Durant really signs with the Warriors, ala joining the competition, and the strongest one at that, how will the public react to his decision?

LeBron's "decision" sucks and the empty promise he made caused hates from the fans. But even then he joined his friends to form a team who they see strong enough to contend right away, but wasn't proven.
Durant would be joining a clear cut best team in the league who should, and would be back to back NBA champions. Who may very well challenge or come close to the Bulls all time rs record. Who will also have a back to back 2 times MVP.

He'll be criticized and I don't think he'll care. Do what's best for your career.
