Any stats that back up he was a negative defender in his prime? Hard to make a claim like that on a player who played in the 60's and 70's.

Today? Of course Deli is a better defender.
In their primes? Easily the Big O.

Oscar was a negative defender

April 26, 1971
Oscar Robertson seemed to be everywhere as the Milwaukee Bucks crushed the Baltimore Bullets 102-83 Sunday and took a 2-0 lead in the National Basketball Association's best-of-7 title series.
Under the policing of Robertson, Monroe only made 4 of 18 from the field.
"Oscar has helped us on defense as much this year as on offense," Milwaukee coach Larry Costello said. "He plays defense as well as Walt Frazier of New York."
"He's as good as Frazier, and stronger. You didn't see Monroe get the ball in low like he did against the Knicks."
"Oscar should have been on the league's all-defense team," said Baltimore coach Gene Shue. "He got my vote. Oscar is strong, and he holds a little - let me get that in."

The reality was, Oscar was 6-5 and around 215-220, and was an amazing athlete. Anyone thinking that he would struggle in a league of Chris Paul's and Rajon Rondo's needs to check into rehab.

Hmm , interesting . Oscar's teams always been worse than league average on defence , beside of 64 , and i didn't see no one speaking positively about his defence until your this post .
I don't think Oscar was good defender with Monroe's low percentage , cause he was inefficient player ; who was even played with %27 fg in 75 playoffs . Or He played with %38 at 69 playoffs .
But those days coaches thinking he's as good as Walt , that's good point . I don't know much . His Royals teams were really bad on D . Like Bellamy , his teams worse than average . Can you imagine Lebron or Bird 's teams worse than average on D ? Even Magic ?

year OWS DWS
69 14.9 14.6
70 29.9 20.7
71 43.6 23.8
72 37.8 28.8
73 28.8 33.3
74 30.3 30.4
75 21.5 19.4
69 is tanking Bucks
70 - Kareem+Dandridge
71 - Oscar+Lucius(great defender)+Boozer
72 - Curtis Perry
, Oscar was probably their vocal leader on defence and that's make some margin . Bucks made big difference on D with Kareem and Dandridge came . And some margin with Oscar,Lucius and Boozer . I give big pie to Lucius of that defensive upgrade . And Curtis Perry and Kareem's raise on D , even with Old Oscar(34-35 years old , who had 0.3 steals and 0 zero blocks in 74 Finals ) , made Bucks great defensive team .
Kareem
Perry
Lucius
and Dandridge builds their greatness of defence .

Because he's black, right?
Because by all accounts, Oscar Robinson was a subpar defensive player. None of us actually watched him play though live.
Dellevadova is an elite defensive player though, on the other hand, who doesn't get the credit he deserves due to his skin colour.

Gotta go with Delly.
Oscar would be Andre Miller in today's game.

don't handle the ball well enough to even play PG in this era
I love dellavedova. He has a ton of heart. Came to the finals ready and fought for it. I respect that.
