Yes.
All Stevens needs is a couple of stars, and we're ready to go.

My Top 5 picks
Gregg Popovich
Rick Carlisle
Terry Stotts
Brad Stevens
Dwane Casey
Carlisle and Stotts are on low seeds, but they have definitely done their part and probably have the weakest rosters of the 5. Pop is Pop and has the 2nd best record in the league, he will be in and a very likely candidate to win it.
Stevens and Casey, they don't have the greatest talent but they have the 3rd and 2nd seed out East respectively. Most praise Stevens a lot, but aren't doing the same for Casey given the injuries his team had gotten. I don't think it would be fair to give all the credit to the all-stars, he's definitely improved as a coach. Both need to prove themselves come playoff time.
Walton and Kerr would have to be co-COY's if the league did give it to GS.

Pop has a roster and is in conversation every time.
Carlisle is eh for me.
Stotts team isn't making a huge all season improvement.
Casey has a team that's 2 players have taken leaps...That team is good because their 2 starting guards elevated.
Stevens is doing all of this with probably one of the more random college rotations you could see. Give it to stevens.

probably go to Warriors if they top 70 wins. Phil won it that year as well when the Bulls won 72 games. Luke and Kerr Co-winners maybe?

COTY winners usually get canned within the next few seasons it's a bit like the student of month award where it usually goes to the trouble maker who is improving rather than the smartest or most well adjusted student.
But I agree with the 5-6 names mentioned. I'd give it to Casey or Stevens.

I'm not quite on board with Stotts being in the discussion unless Portland carries on this level of play through the rest of the season. Portland had a killer February for sure, but that team was below .500 until three weeks ago; they were underachieving big time.
I'm certainly not on board with him above Casey or Stevens whose teams have shown sharp improvement over last year.
Edit: All of this is kind of irrelevant. Even if the Warriors don't break the record, CotY should be going to Golden State.

Steve Kerr. No real reason to debate why.

He seriously deserves it. He has the same squad as last year, no superstars, fantastic defense, no drama. That's how you do it, that's when you know your team is going in the right direction.
I'm a Pop fan but COTY should be an award given based mostly on improvement and effort imo. Plus the Spurs roster is loaded right now.

Kerr deserves it but Stevens is a close 2nd and Pop 3rd.
His defensive scheme is working wonders in the weak east, fun team to watch.

I guess Kerr gets it? But you sort of have to give COTY to the team probably winning 70+.

If Golden State break the record then I'd assume Kerr gets it, but coach Stevens has done a fantastic job with this roster, it's basically ready for a star to come in and make the team a true title contender.

hell of a season....hate that they will be a first round playoff exit...team reminds me of the nuggets team George karl had a few seasons back that lost in the first round to the warriors. Great team and fun to watch but come playoff time they didn't have a go to scorer....well their go to scorer was a midget......ty Lawson........isiah Thomas. yep

Thomas is better than Lawson, also the Warriors turned out to be one of the best teams ever.
If they can hold onto the 3 seed they won't be playing against a very good team, and they will have HCA to boot, I think they will make it to the 2nd round at least.

he is better than Lawson now.....but not better than Lawson was playing that season.....if they keep the 3 seed they will potentially be playing Miami,pacers,bulls,wiz....either one of those teams.
I think each of those teams could bet the Celtics 4 times but itll be a fun series to watch no doubt.

Damn. Imagine if this guy had a superstar on that team surrounded by those guys?
As a Knicks fan it sucks, I hate the Celtics but I am so jelly of their coach.
Kerr is an awesome coach but I would be surprised if they gave it to him because not coaching for more than half season

Yes he is.
His PER this season is higher than Lawson has ever reached, and Lawson has never scored more than 20 PPG or made an all star game.
Lawson is an alcoholic headcase, IT3 is all about winning and it shows.

Pop should win every year and doesn't have enough of these.
WTF Kerr? They are worse with him than without. He missed more than half the season. GTFO.
He definitely deserves it, but if a team's going to break the Bulls record the only reason you don't give it to their coach is if the situation with Walton was a barrier to you. They still gave those wins to Kerr though, so I'd say he takes it

Sure, if the League just happens to overlook Kerr. but little Bradley may forget what he's doing come play-off time.

Kerr shouldn't get it he didn't coach half the season.... So yeah
I still think pop should get it. Why? Because the league is headed into a small ball era and almost everyone is following the trend, pop doesn't. He is trying to stay ahead of the trend and develop his own style to counteract that... That has got to be worth alot of value in coty voting.

Let's see.
Give COTY to a coach with a team that has won 50 games... or a coach that has won 70...
So tough.

That's something to be proud of?
Sam Mitchell, Byron Scott, Mike Brown, and Scott Brooks all won COTY.
Talk to me when your coach wins a playoff game.

Talk to me when people take your team seriously (hint, with Harden as your leader it's not going to happen)
