View Full Version : Who do you blame for OKC's lack of execution in the 4th qtr?

I've been a season ticket holder since around the time the Thunder came to OKC so I've been to and watched almost every single Thunder game. When we became legit contenders I started noticing a pattern of 4th quarter meltdowns from time to time. It's one thing to have meltdowns, but when you meltdown the exact same way every single time something is wrong.

Who do you blame for the lack of execution in the 4th quarter? Sam Presti? Scott Brooks? Billy Donovan? Russell Westbrook? Kevin Durant? Rumble?

Westbrook and Durant refuse to pass the ball to anyone but each other and in the 4th quarter they are more tired so they cant run iso ball as effectively as the defense knows that neither will pass the ball.

Also, both have a bad habit of taking terrible 3s.

It's prestis fault for not getting a coach to get them to stop.

Durant and westbrook cant create shots consistently. Westbrook brick shots. While durant still trying to be curry with that height thus the turnovers. Durant gaining muscles is the only solution for that so he could start playing in the post. If jordan/kobe prefers to play in the post because they couldnt do what curry does, then the more that durant shouldnt play like that.

Yeah, I guess this goes with the confidence issue that Jabber mentioned. It's great to have confidence, but you still have to be smart about it. Sometimes it seems like these guys have the "I don't give a ****" mentality.

Durant
-Play in the low Post
-No bounce passes
-Score/Clock Awareness

Westbrook
-Look to drive and not rely on a foul being called

Thunder Bigs
-When westbrook or durant are iso-ing at the top of the key, the bigs need to be near the rim, and the other two players should be stopping fastbreak passouts.

The whole team needs better spacing in general.

Also once the opposing team uses a pnr, a defender needs to rotate to help their bigs from getting blown past.

If a coach tried to stop them, they wouldn't last very long. They would get fired. Players run things that's why it's a mess.

They're overly reliant on two guys making tough shots. It's not sustainable against great defenses.

Also, they have trouble getting stops.

Ibaka. Dude waits for passes to shoot 3s and he gave up a leakout dunk after he missed his 3.

:oldlol: no but seriously, they are fine. They have hit a lull but they will still be a tough out in the playoffs. If there are really only 2 teams that can beat you in the playoffs of your conference (only 1 really, we don't know how they would be against the Spurs) than they will be OK. Now if they were to somehow get REKT in the 1st round? Time to officially blow it up.

It's disappointing that 4 years later they are still having the same problems in clutch moments. It's actually worse because they've become more predictable.

Blame Westbrook.

Durant is more reliable in the clutch. Just from the eye test alone, back when KD was going solo in his MVP year he was a killer in the clutch. Where as Westbrook was reckless and tended to force the issue in ways the game has never seen.

Don't even put Westbrook in the game during clutch situations. He's a bad defender and a bad shooter from deep, Put the ball in Durant's hands and surround him with shooters and defenders.
