Notice how Derrick Rose uses a hard dribble and step back to make his jumpshot explosive

Throw your theory in the toilet. Some of the least explosive guys have the best jumpshots.

Okay your theory isnt totally wrong. The more explosiveness you have the more seperation you can get to maintain form/concentration on your jumpshot. Most nba players can hit a high percentage of open shots, some people just have tools to make their contested jumpshots more open, if that makes sense. Steph Curry is deadly accurate, but his release is so damn quick he doesnt have to alter his form to get his shot off. Durant and Dirk are so tall they dont have to worry about pressure to get their shot off. When you are explosive you can get that separation needed then when you lack explosiveness.

Derrick Rose is not a good jumpshooter though.

It can help. One of the reasons why Ray's jumper was damn difficult to check was because he got up so high every time.

The higher you jump the better of course..

You release at the top, which means you will be in the air for longer. A rushed shot is never a high percentage shot. MJ had a ridiculous vertical and he would jump knowing his defender couldnt hang in the air as long as him, which gave him extra time and confidence knowing he will get a decent shot off.

Speaking of jumping high on jumpers, one of my favorite Jordan pics. How the hell are you supposed to block that when he's jumping 34+" on the jumper and his release point is at rim level lol. :oldlol:

It helps the arc, but form is much more important. Curry is all the proof you need

Nah, it can help you elevate over more people to get your shot off but in terms of shooting, it's an art. Practice makes perfect. Even one of the GOAT shooters ever in Miller had an unorthodox shot, but it worked for him. The key is to put in the work and find out what's best for you.
