No, you're wrong, race has nothing to do with anything. You can be black and be Hispanic or Arabic or whatever. If Lebanese family moved to Venezuela in 1920 and they've been there since, you cannot tell me they aren't culturally Latino. It has nothing to do with racial background, that's what you Americans don't understand.

For example, in Mexico I have friends with diferent ethnic surnames like Massieu (French), Nardoni, Espoli, Di Abruzzo (Italian) and Weissmuller (German). Their families have been in Mexico for generations, they are Mexican therefore Latinos and they would take offense if an American dude like yourself claimed they are somehow less Latino than others. I also knew a Mexican girl of English descent (Shelly was her last name), didn't know a lick of English, she had blonde hair, blue eyes and freckles, yup she was Latina too...

What you don't understand is that you're being literal. The term Hispanic/Latino is meant to describe a people who share a cultural background (as in being from Mexico all the way down to Argentina). Language is the common factor (Spanish, Portuguese). That's why Haiti and Jamaica aren't considered Latino but the Dominican Republic is (even though they are a majority of African descent). Pel
