View Full Version : MJ's 1989 vs. Lebron's 2009

3ball

Lebron's team lost in the playoffs as heavy favorites while Jordan won as heavy underdog, proving that Jordan's team played to full capacity while Lebron's team played undercapacity.

And we know that Lebron's supporting cast was far better - his supporting cast added enough help on top of his 28/8/7/49 to win 66 games, while MJ's supporting cast only added enough help on top of his 33/8/8/54 to win 47 games.

The 19-game difference could only be because of 2 reasons: Lebron faced worse competition or had better supporting cast.

If you think that all 19 wins were due to worse competition, then consider how much better that makes MJ's playoff stats look, since they came against far better competition... Lebron's 35/9/7/51/1.6 stl playoff averages in 2009 are invalidated compared to MJ's nearly identical 35/7/7/51/2.5 stl playoff averages in 1989, due to facing vastly inferior competition..

Of course, the other alternative is that Lebron's supporting cast was better, in addition to the aforementioned weaker comp.. This of course, must be true.. Lebron's supporting cast included an all-star and a slew of higher-producing veterans, a stark contrast from MJ's young, lower-producing cast.. The Bulls' cast was so weak that MJ faced the "Jordan Rules", which was every-possession (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=386210) double-teaming.

Lebron was better
2009 was an obvious example of Lebron reducing the APG of a key teammate, while increasing their assisted rate (turning them from playmaker into play-finisher).

Mo Williams' APG declined from 6.3 to 4.1 in his first year with Lebron (2009), while his assisted rate increased from 34.4% to 46.6% .. Not surprisingly, his predictable play-finishing role no longer succeeded against the best playoff teams - he only shot 37% against Orlando.

Lebron turns ALL his key teammates into predictable play-finishers in this same fashion (lowers their APG and increases their assisted rate), so this kind of underperformance in the biggest playoff series has become STANDARD for Lebron's supporting cast..

Wade, Love, Bosh, Kyrie, Shumpert, JR Smith - all these guys were turned into predictable play-finishers and so none of them were capable of performing at their full capacity against the best teams in the Finals.

And im not exaggerating for emphasis. Its dozens of times. If you look for how many times you said "Added enough help" it leads to dozens of times you made this same argument. No less than 3 dozen times...and you repeat yourself over and over in each argument. Meaning you have essentially done this....100 times or more.

When you have nothing left to say....saying nothing is an option. Also....finding new subjects. Also a viable option.

Repeating yourself thousands of times is....less advised. Im sure everyone has fundamentally repeated the same points at times. Lots of times even. You are word for word posting copies of whole points and making new topics to do it again and again and again. And you wonder why forums get rid of you? Have you any idea how many requests we get to ban you forever?

Just....try....to think of a somewhat fresh idea when you make a new topic. Somewhat. Just like...not totally rotten beyond all reason.

You are pulling topics out from behind the couch like Homer and that big sandwich.

Lebron was comfortably better.

Lebron produced less and underachieved with his team (lost to the Finals loser in ECF), while Jordan produced more and overachieved with his team (lost to Finals winner and atg team in ECF)

So by any standard, Jordan's season was better - he produced more than Lebron while exceeding all pundits expectations:

MJ because stealing 2x games from undefeated Bad Boy Pistons at their peak. Plus, are we even going to compare the '89 Pistons to the 2009 Orlando Magic? Cavs might not have even got that far had KG never got injured. The Celtics that year were playing better than they had the season prior.

Well 3ball is an obvious loon. I'd say they were about equal. Pippin and Grant were still green AF. Mo Williams milk carton disappearing act, and Mike Brown's inability to adapt to Orlando's small ball lineup of 2x stretch 4s in Hedo and Rashard is why we never got to enjoy the great late 2000s debate of Kobe vs LeBron in the Finals.

You guys are so stupid. Lebron's supporting cast was better than MJ's. Pippen and Grant were in their 2nd seasons and were below average players still, the 2nd best player on the 1989 Bulls was probably Bill Cartwright. And as cool as it is to clown Mo Williams, he had a good season in 2009 and was an All-Star. The 1989 Bulls were complete trash outside of Jordan, no other above average players.

Mike in 1989

Better offensive player by default because of his shooting (midrange). As defenders, I would take MJ too because he was better man to man, not relying heavily on "highlight" blocks.

What's funny though is people legit think 2009 was LeBron @ his peak. With his ability to hit the midrange and three ball, I would roll w/ LeBron's 2013 and 2014 versions before I would 2009. Definitely.

The series was even at 2 apiece. It was quite possible the biggest game of his career to date and he flat out quit shooting the ball.

Collins asked him to play facilitator and not a scorer that game. Kind of how PJ asked Kobe to switch it up headed into the 2006 series vs Phoenix. And specifically the second half of game 7. And what does that have to do with MJ's performances directly leading to wins vs a team that would go undefeated otherwise in the playoffs and Finals?

So let me get this straight..... Lebron era generation who can't accept the fact that the man of their era was inferior to MJ are melting down and PM'ing you because their stupidity in the matter is causing 3ball to have to reiterate himself to get the same point across. Maybe if they understood even the most simplest, basic concepts they'd understand that MJ > Lebron, and stop refuting it, and that would enable 3ball to have to stop posting about it.

This is a simple cause/effect relationship.

Maybe it's just coincidence that those on this board who saw both MJ and Lebron play live clearly know who the better player is, as apposed to these 15-20 year olds who don't know any better and complain that they had to drop out of HS because they got bullied too much.

3ball helps to keep these 15-20 lebron stans that don't know shit in check and makes them squirm to the point where they run to you.

3ball is not the problem, the posters who don't understand that MJ > Lebron are the root of the problem. Get rid of them and your problem is solved. Simple solution to a simple problem.

Because I find it hard to believe that a coach would ask his best and most effective scorer (with the series tied at 2 in game 5 of the ECF) to curtail his FGA by more than half, in the biggest game of the season to date.

What Kobe did was in the 1st round....not the WCF

Bulls would've made a couple of Finals appearances in the late 80s easily if it weren't for the Pistons standing in the way, and the Lakers would've won a championship in 89 if it weren't for Magic getting hurt.

For claiming to be as wise as you are, you really don't get simple things...

That or you just really love trolling. Either way, you're a tool.

No, it is you that can't comprehend simple things. Just because something appears complex in nature to you, doesn't mean it's complex for those who are of greater intelligence than you. Such is the difference between someone like myself that has forgotten more concepts than you currently know.

The guy I watched live from my era dominated his competition in the finals and went 6/6.

The guy that the bran lovers watched live got his ass handed to him and went 2/6.

It really is that simple.

It must really suck for these bran lover types once such simple realities set in... all that time they spent arguing with their betters (just wait till next year!!!!) only to come up short.

Most of them gave up hope and now stan Curry. What more can they really do? It's rather quite pathetic if you ask me.

I would be interested in getting the contact information from these so called "mods" at this site. They clearly don't realize that they are just making themselves look more uneducated by banning those who tell them MJ is GOAT.

It's just ridiculous to compare a guy who jumps teams to chase rings and makes a fool out of himself in doing so by coming up short in the process with a 2/6 finals record to someone like GOAT MJ.

If these people can't grasp such simple concepts as it applies to the sport of basketball, how can anyone expect them to grasp simple concepts that they encounter in their everyday lives? How can anyone expect them to ever amount to anything? I live very comfortably in today's ever challenging world and I attribute that to being able to discern fact from fiction.

Hes an odd combo of right conclusion and wrong evidence. Hes a math student who gets the right answer but cant show his work.

Hes most certainly an irritant...and an even worse spammer. I just feel torn because hes technically right.

On one hand....almost everyone is right about something. They dont make 18 topics a week about it.

On the other....is telling the truth with shitty evidence worse than people telling lies with shitty evidence?

I seem to ignore the people saying things they cant believe and supporting it like idiots....how do I ban him for saying things that are true and intellectually honest...because he supports it like an idiot?

Hes an awful and annoying poster who spams his technically correct opinion enough that he may need a little reeling in....but a longterm ban for the truth while we dont ban idiots for lying about believing absurd things just to get a reaction?

Nah. Not yet at least.

Even if you are telling me 2+2 is 4...you post it 10 thousand times and start annoying people with it you need to go. This is probably the last place that puts up with such things. You annoy enough people who then annoy me....

As I said...there comes a point.

The irony is that people are running to mods on this site to complain about posts from someone that is trying to properly educate them in the first place! That's how mentally challenged they are! They don't even realize they are getting educated and that the education has to be geared in such a way that it comes off as spamming, when really 3ball has no choice to use such a technique because all other efforts have failed. It's difficult to educate the willingly ignorant.

6/6 is a big enough sample size to conclude that if MJ has a team good enough to get him to the finals, that he CANNOT lose. This simply cannot be refuted and there's no other player in the history of the game that you can say this about without 100% certainty because either there's not a big enough sample size, or they have lost in the finals at one point or another.

How blessed are these 20 year olds to be able to hear the testimonies of those who watched MJ play live?! Their kids will be so much less fortunate. Wtf are they gonna tell their kids? "ya... we watched a guy go 2/7 in the finals" :wtf:

The little kid is liable to go off the rails and slap his father across the ****ing face for even mentioning such a shitty finals record to him.

Bill won 8 straight.

That means Bill didn't quit the league "in his prime" during that 8yr run. He defended those titles 7x w/o quitting the league for 2yrs like MJ did.

Even though he lost the following year, stopping Boston's run, at least he "attempted" to defend his title w/o quitting the league...which MJ did "twice" during his 2 separate runs.

Wrong, his wins are not as impressive as MJ's and it's well documented. In addition to having fewer teams, there were fewer playoff rounds and the top teams (like the Celtics) often got first round byes. Whereas Jordan had to win 15 playoff games to win a title (and often play upwards of 20 games or more), Russell played between 10 and 14 games to win each of his first eight championships.

By playing fewer postseason games, combined with shorter NBA seasons, this gave Russell a distinct advantage in durability over Jordan in accumulating wear and tear.

You made this topic already:

I saw it but I didn't think it was worth responding to someone that took an hour out of their day to write a long, detailed, angry rant ABOUT my posts.
I guess copy and paste saves you the hour on your long posts.

Zach LaVine

An hour? Really? You think 5 links from the first page of search results and a couple paragraphs take me an hour? Ok...

New approach. Do you know what happens when someone reports a post? We get emailed. My phone chimes....I stop what im doing and look into it. Never know what it is. People post porn...risk peoples jobs if they post from work. I try to look into it. So...when you do this bullshit I get emails like this in the middle of watching a movie or working. Whatever. This is what I get:

Last guy was right. At a glance....at least 5 times in that one topic you deleted and reposted shit....

What you are doing...is causing dozens of brief interruptions in my day. Which is why the most annoying posters eventually get on my nerves.

Since you dont respond to explanations lets try this....

Im gonna countdown the times someone reports you and is correct. Starting from 10. The very next time you are banned for a day. At 8....a week. At 5....a month.

Get to 0 before 2017...forever.

How about that? 99% of posters have never had a post reported....once.

Im gonna let you have me open my phone and read an email about you 9 more times.

Which is 9 more than most get reported....ever.

I am here...mostly...to serve the people. The people who seem to hate you.

Since you dont respond to me trying to explain in only somewhat dickish fashion that you are bothering people....let me go full jackass and explain it like a powertripping jerk:

Nothing is definitive.

3ball is a looney tune. But at least tries to be creative. Straight Ballin is an even worse MJ stan to the utmost degree. He takes his obsession too far to where he resorts to personal insults and bullying. He makes up a false persona and uses it to belittle people. What is he? 35, 40, 50? Because he's used all of the above. Married? Girlfriend? Player? Used all those too. Pretends to have a 6 figure job and feels that's his form of credibility. Yeah, I'll be the first to admit being a dick to posters who argued something I vehemently disagreed with. But I've come to gradually understand people can agree to disagree while building together in said discussion. I've even entertained 'Wilt = GOAT' talks when in the past I would have railed on someone for even suggesting it. :lol

Still, as big of an MJ fan I was and still am today, never did I embarrass myself like this straightballen clown does REPEATEDLY in threads. The nutjub, along with 3ball, managed to turn casual Jordan fans into haters on here. Never seen anything like it.

These are all lists based on a writers perspective. Some of which will put MJ on the top to appease the masses or physcos like you who may commit suicide if you saw another name on top. I'll be the first to admit, Jordan is the GENERAL consensus. But for a list to be definitive if 1,000,000 people were to vote on who the greatest in their opinion is then 1,000,000 people should have the same answer. But obsessed people like you don't see that logic, you live in your fantasy world.

As Kuniva_dAMiGhTy says, you can agree to disagree and it makes this place much more pleasurable. You become respected. You chose to go the other way. Now look at yourself. You're deceitful, bitter, resentful, and highly looked down upon. All in the name of defending a person who wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire. You are the lowest of the low on here. I'm sure if ISH were to vote to save 3ball and get rid of you it would be a DEFINITIVE yes

If there is a reputable top 10 list that doesn't contain MJ in the #1 spot, I'd certainly love to see it. Jordan is not definitive, but until someone else takes his spot as the general consensus, the opinion of the majority is nothing to take lightly.

When I read the opinions about myself from a random person on an internet message board filled with trolls and then compare it to the real world perception of myself, I can't help but just laugh. I have a hard time believing that you actually think I care about how this user name is perceived on a basketball forum filled with trolls. Chose to go the other way? Your damn right I did. Someone like myself who wakes up happy and goes to bed happy every single day has the ability to do so. Obviously if Jeff wanted this to be a site about serious basketball discussion, he would not allow some 20 year old to have 20+ accounts and talk to himself on a daily basis on here. I find this absolutely hilarious and I support Jeff's decision. You're living in a dream world if you think this board will ever revert back to what it once was. Now if you want to have an intelligent conversation about basketball on a different message board, I'd be happy to accommodate you but this place is not the setting for such conversations.

I have a hard time believing that. If you didn't care so much then why do you repeatedly have to remind people how allegedly successful you are in life? 3ball appears to not give a **** about it because he doesn't have to resort to bringing up materialistic shit unlike yourself. The word that describes this is insecurity and you are presenting all the classic signs of it. If you don't care about what people think are you are truly happy with your "real world" stuff then there is no need for the constant reminders.

What makes it even worse is you can't even get your story straight which leads people to believe you're a fraud. What's the point of posting false information to give yourself credibility? All in all that makes you delusional and it's very unhealthy. You should be lucky to get banned otherwise your should voluntarily retire for your own health

If you are going to make a baseless claim, at least do some research on what you are claiming. First of all, I think there is maybe 3-4 threads out of all my posts where I even mention these "constant reminders" that you refer to, and those post were to prove a point. Someone who is insecure would be constantly mentioning it, which isn't the case. You are confusing other posters accusations as my stories. Trust me when I tell you that I'm quite content, and this troll message board where I post a mere 4 posts per day is being taken wayyyyy to seriously by posters like yourself that think this place is anything more than that.

[QUOTE=Straight_Ballin]So let me get this straight.....

No, it is you that can't comprehend simple things. Just because something appears complex in nature to you, doesn't mean it's complex for those who are of greater intelligence than you. Such is the difference between someone like myself that has forgotten more concepts than you currently know.

Next time think before you post... or don't and continue to make arbitrary claims without any backing to support them.

The little kid is liable to go off the rails and slap his father across the ****ing face for even mentioning such a shitty finals record to him.

http://www.gifbin.com/bin/092009/1253528075_dr-phil.gif

What's sad is that the man of your generation is 2/6. Go cry about it to other 15-20 year olds. Misery loves company.

I meant no other player who AS THE MAN went undefeated in the finals with a large sample size. Why do you think I didn't mention Pippen in my statement?

Nope, I'm not even as old as Kobe. I only post on here on average of 4 times per day (check my profile), as a man of my 6 figure salary doesn't have the luxury and the free time of a college student. People like me don't make mistakes. We can't afford to because it means 1000's of jobs could potentially be lost. Yet here you are trying to argue with such a high level individual.

As I have stated in the past, it's not my problem that hat the man of your generation is 2/6. Go cry about it elsewhere because those who watched MJ live have no more sympathy left to hand out.

It's not anywhere as impressive to what MJ did.

The man of your generation is 2/6. The man of mine is 6/6, and that is why you will forever hold the L. It's that simple.

Arbitrary claims without any backing to support them. Thanks for strengthening what I already said about you.

Why are you letting 3ball live in your mind rent free? Did you seriously just go looking on google for his posts on other message boards and take the time to post those links here? :lol

And when MJ came back, he brought the city of Chicago 3 more rings.:lol

Lebron came back, and Cleveland has won ZERO rings and he will never bring a ring to Cleveland.

All this site needs is a search feature. If it had that, there wouldn't be duplicate threads of the same shit. More threads of the same shit means more activity, so Jeff dropped the search feature.

Slurping the dude who slurps MJ. The next level of stanning. :facepalm

i would probably take lebron though. higher efficiency (PER) and played with worse teammates while putting up slightly better all-around, RAW numbers.
