Milwaukee Bucks point guard Michael Carter-Williams will undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left hip and miss the rest of the season, the team announced on Monday.

Carter-Williams has missed the team's last four games due to patella tendinitis and sat out five games at the beginning of the season with an ankle injury. He struggled after returning to the court and in November was demoted from the starting lineup in favor of Jerryd Bayless.

In 54 games this season Carter-Williams has averaged 11.5 points, 5.1 rebounds and a team-high 5.2 assists, though he's only shot 27 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Bucks, at 26-37, are six games behind the eighth-place Bulls with just 19 games left to play.

Williams was acquired by the Bucks last season in a three-team deal involving the Suns and Sixers in which Milwaukee sent Brandon Knight to the Suns in order to acquire Carter-Williams from Philadelphia. The team, however, was not happy with how Carter-Williams played this season and made him available prior to the trade deadline, according to multiple reports.

Carter-Williams was drafted out of Syracuse by the Sixers No. 11 overall in 2013. He was named NBA Rookie of the Year that season before being traded to Milwaukee a half-year later.

Prime example of someone putting up stats on a shit team (Sixers) and fading away little by little. I imagine Bucks will be shopping for a PG in the off season

Basically, not a starter ?

Is there any point keeping him and developing him off the bench ?

Possibly, he's serviceable as a defense/hustle player off the bench, but until we get a legit starting PG to force him into that role he's gonna be delusional about his PG ability and keep trying to play like one. He's a really good defender and oftentimes a spark of energy when nothing's working but if you rely on him to run your offense like an actual PG you're f*cked.

Sucks that he got hurt but it means more point guard Giannis, so whatever.

He got the body and skill-set to be Shaun Livingston 2.0
Maybe this injury will bring him back to earth and he can accept a reduced role coming off the bench.

He's not nearly as smart and creative on the court as Livingston

This is a really really bad injury. Hip labrums don't repair. You can trim it and remove the floating chunks but if they get in there and the labrum is shredded there is no fixing it. You have to completely replace the joint.

I don't like him as a player but this guy never got paid. I hope it goes ok.

how much money can they throw and conley this summer?

seems like he'd be a great fit. still think theyd need another shooter somewhere on the court though, unless parker adds that to his game this summer.

Monroe is a brutal fit. They need to trade him for another shooter to provide Giannis and Jabari some spacing. But eventually those two need to be able to shoot because the whole league backs off them and dates them to shoot.
