View Full Version : Kobe only has a month left in his career...
JT123

yet it seems no one really gives a shit. :confusedshrug:
Sure everyone kissed his ass for a couple weeks after the announcement, but it appears the mystique around his retirement tour has completely died. You'd think the "Jordan of our era" :oldlol: leaving forever would have more people talking about him during his final days. Even on ISH posters would rather make threads about Lebron's cryptic tweets than talk about how privileged they are to witness baldbe's career end.
Mediocre end for a mediocre star :(

Try looking on a Lakers only forum. ISH isn't known for knowledgeable mature basketball chatter. You post here because it's the wild west of forums with no rules other than don't post your personal tranny pic collection (Clippersfan86). Why discuss Kobe's career with a bunch of teens who were in pre-school at the time of the three-peat. Sure you can watch some highlights on youtube between anime episodes, but you can't possibly know the context of his career without having been there from the beginning.

I dont even discuss Lakers or Kobe here because of this. I just troll along. When I want to post something Lakers or Kobe related (which is never I tend to talk about it with friends) I go somewhere else.

A few of us were here for Jordans last games. It wasnt as big a deal as you might assume. We had a topic or two...he had his last game vs Philly and I just remember it being pretty anti climatic with some of us wondering why he wasnt playing more. But it was a blowout and we just moved on.

But Jordan had retired twice already, so of course his third retirement was going to be anticlimactic. :lol
In 98 when most knew MJ was likely in his last days every game he played in was a HUGE deal. Not so for Kobe. Can't remember the last time a top 12 player in any sport had their career come to an end in such a dull/boring manner. Though to be fair Kobe will likely be out of the top 15 and forgotten within five years.

Jeter? Shaq? Jerry Rice? I could name more but doubt you were alive to see any of them play at their best.
And not many people get to be like MJ where there assumed last game was a Championship game. Peyton just did it but no other from any other sport has had that opportunity.

from the beginning:
manipulated the draft so he could play with Shaq and the already contending Lakers
Rode the pine
air-balled 4 straight shots in the playoffs
got swept in 1999
got carried by Shaq in the Finals the next 3yrs
Kobe took it upon himself to be first option and lost in the 2003 WCSF
did the same again in 2004 and got shut down by 2nd year player Tayshaun Prince.
Finally got his own team and was first option for the first time in the NBA and misses the playoffs, then gets bounced in the 1st round in B2B years.
Then wins some titles against the so-called pathetic East.
Then colludes to get a super team and he gets hurt.
Then goes to Germany to get illegal doping done.
Plays well after...but the multiple Germany trips catches up with him and hasn't been relevant for the last 4yrs.

Why would LA be willing to give up their 27yr old proven starting center (Vlade) for unproven Kobe if they weren't 99% sure that they were going to land Shaq in free agency?

West would've given anything that summer for Kobe. The Hornets wanted Divac seeing as how they needed a replacement for Zo who had left the year prior.
