DALLAS -- Coach Rick Carlisle accused referee David Jones of entering the Dallas Mavericks' huddle during a timeout to bait point guard Deron Williams into a technical foul.

"For the first time in a 33-year NBA career, I saw a referee make a point of going out of his way and walking into our huddle and baiting one of our guys into getting a technical," Carlisle said after Wednesday's 102-96 loss to the Detroit Pistons, which extended the Mavs' losing streak to a season-worst four games. "I've never seen anything like that in my years in this league. I don't see how that can ever be excusable."

After Jones approached the Mavs' huddle, he said something to Williams and walked away. Williams then took a few steps toward Jones and said, "What's up?"

Only thing worse than NBA refs is Deron's beard+headband combo.

He is stepping up to fill Joey Crawford's shoes.

I like Jones' initiative. I might promote him to Joey's now vacant position as lead rigger.

Jones reached out to apologize to the Mavericks and the NBA will reportedly address the incident. All signs point to the official being in the wrong on this one. But glad to see he owned up to it and the league seems to acknowledge.

"With the League's permission, referee David Jones contacted me today to apologize for the situation that developed with Deron Williams last night," Carlisle said in the text. "I accepted his apology and told him that I now consider this matter in the past."

The NBA said in a statement that Jones didn't handle the situation correctly and the NBA will address the incident.

"The play was handled improperly by the referee on the floor, and the situation is being addressed by the league office," NBA executive vice president of referee operations Mike Bantom sad in a statement released to ESPN.http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/14943876/dallas-mavericks-coach-rick-carlisle-referee-david-jones-apologized-matter-past

they should start suspending refs for dumb shit like this, what if the players reacts to the bait and cause a suspension. Good thing Joey Crawford is done.
