View Full Version : Should Cavs offer Lebron max contract after next season?

So next season Lebron most likely will take another 1 year deal.
And then in the 2017-18 season he'll be expecting a max contract for max years.
He'll be almost 33 years old by then. He is at 31 already declining although still one of the best player in the game. Cavs might be stuck with a max player who isn't delivering max player performance for the majority of the contract. Not to mention Lebron has been relatively injury free so far. One serious injury and it's hard to bounce back at that age.
Should they maybe look to build on Kyrie - Love combo and add solid pieces instead?
Stop it. He's getting a max or he'll leave. Would the Cavs rather he hopped back to Miami or something? No.
Also Kyrie and Love is not a winning combo to build upon. What would either of them do in a pick and roll? I think they are statistically the worst in the league.

That is the question. Should they let him leave rather than tied up to a max contract for 33-39 years old Lebron?

Lebron will get the max for however long he is in Cleveland. Franchise is nothing without him. I mean that in relevance, attendance, ratings, and most importantly wins. He will retire a Cav.
Kyrie and Love are free to be traded though

He'll take less so they can stack the team. Because he's not good enough to lead them obviously:oldlol:

Doesn't LeBron want that 5 year $200M+ contract after the salary cap rockets? ****ing hell, that's a lot of money.

So true. He has a lot of Leverage. Not only from the eye test but from stats overall. The team first time around was a conference final contender. He guarantees you 50 plus wins and deep playoff runs. Monetary wise, he impacts season tickets, merchandise, and other people investing in the CAVS.
IF(Big IF) he can advance to the finals and lead this team past Golden State or the Spurs, one championship in Cleveland vaults him to the top 5 all time ( I have him in the 8-10 category)

He's gonna get the max for sure, because of his history in Cleveland but if he was a different player, the cavs would be having this discussion.
Lebrons game has slipped noticeably, his jumper is broken and his athleticism is fading slightly, but he's a much smarter player and he'll always have a strength advantage.
But if he doesn't fix his jumper, at the back end of his contract he won't be worth his salary. It's the same as kobes last contract, you know he'll be overpaid at the end but you still have to give it to him.

Good god, I would be the happiest man alive if Cleveland tries to disrespected LeBron by not offering him the max, because the second that happens Wade and Bron will be reunited in Miami:roll:

No, he's not even a max player now, and will be shittier next season and worse and worse after that.

Every true superstar gets that treatment, esp if they paid their dues to an organization. Think of how much money Bron has made them, even at 33, even if he's not a max player anymore, there are plenty of max guys who made max at the end of their careers while being totally ass.

Lebron has made Dan Gilbert hundreds of millions of dollars and maybe even close to a billion. The value of the franchise doubled the moment he announced he was returning. From a pure business perspective a max contract would still be an underpay.
