View Full Version : LMA/Kawhi - where do they rank among duos?

LMA has picked it up since a real slow start the first couple of months and is now looking like an elite top player again - and we all know how good Kawhi is. They've led the Spurs to a 55-10 record thus far. Their stats don't pop as much as OKC's duo but their efficiency and winning rate is ridiculous.

The last six games;

LMA - 25.4/9.4/2/2 on 59% + solid, above average defense.
Kawhi - 24.8/8/3/1 on 50% + DPOTY defense.

I've been really impressed by LMA lately. Had a slow start the other day (Pacers I think) going like 0/5 or something and kept fighting for a respectable stat line.

They're definitely top 5 to me. Maybe top 3.

LMA does not belong in the same breath as Kawhi

LMA = soft, mediocre efficiency, jump shooting big man that doesnt really rebound, pass, or defend.

Kawhi = first option that goes hard in the paint on great efficiency while playing team basketball and lock-down defense.

51% FG for the season, 86% FT for the season. 9 Boards while playing alongside Duncan and Kawhi. Going in the paint way more than he ever has, shooting more FT's.

The point of this was to be for this season. Also never compared him to all time greats lol

Pretty high, right up there with:

Westbrook and Durant, Kyrie n Kev, Curry and whichever role player is hot, and the newest elite duo - Lillard and Moccollum

Fair enough. Im just not a fan of LMA's game. That ***** doesnt ever pass the ball and just shoots pull up jumpers like hes steph curry. Doesnt have a reputation for defending either.

LMA puts up nice numbers but he sucked hard when it mattered most (both games against cavaliers and the one againts warriors)

and Kawhi is overrated too

I'll never understand the LMA hate. He is a beast. Watch what he did to Houston in the playoffs. So underrated consistently. Top 5 pf for the past 7 years.

He shoots mid-range 2s almost exclusively. Many say it's the most inefficient shot but the wise ones would tell you that come playoff time, it's a necessary skill to score consistently in a slowed down game as long as you have multiple weapons elsewhere.

Bet if you took away any transition buckets and just used half-court statistics, LMA would be right there with the players you listed. He could be more of a complete scorer and defender but for what he does and being quite immobile, he's not remotely bad.

- Curry/Green
- Durant/Westbrick
- LMA/Kawhi
- Curry/Klay

In that order. :pimp:

You have obviously not watched a single game of his this season. At the beginning of the year Spurs fans were complaining because he was passing too much. I haven't seen him shoot a single pull-up jumper all year (Pop would bench his ass if he tried), and his defense has been well above average.

Your talking about the old LMA, not to be confused with the new LMA.

With all due respect, the guy has a pretty silky jumper for his position, or in general for that matter.

Pun intended - They are getting slept on.

They've been great post ASB. If LMA keeps this up and brings it in the post season, the Spurs vs Warriors are a lock for the WCF. Not that it needed anymore reassurance.

OKC can beat the Spurs in a 7 game series.

I wanna say the Clippers with Blake Griffin might be able to, but I'll hold off on that.

Of the top 8 teams in the league at the moment, the Thunder have the worst defense and lead the league in games lost after leading 3 quarter with 10 (last I checked).

I just don't trust their role players and that defense to go all the way.

OKC has always given the Spurs problems in recent years purely due to their athleticism. Westbrook is a problem without a solution. Parker and Mills simply cannot guard him, which means we have to put Green on him.

They are certainly near the top. Other than Westbrook and Durant, I can't name another duo FOR SURE that is better. And when looking at STRICTLY forward duos, they are EASILY the best. The thing about Leonard and LMA is that they BOTH play within the flow of the game. Both would prefer to play that way. But BOTH score well enough to takeover a game when its time too. It will making building around them in San Antonio easy because of their styles of play.
