I'm looking at buying a summer home or cabin. Where's a good place to buy? I was thinking a summer home in Coatesville but some friends are buying in Orlando, Vegas, and Phoenix because they say real estate is cheap. I'd rather have something drivable and by a beach or river but if these are the places to invest then maybe I'll venture out. Anybody have vacation homes in these areas?

Want to stay over for the summer? You need a vacay. I won't just give money away, but if you're looking to get away and destress then get back at me. Looks like you need it

wherever you want to spend your vacations? :confusedshrug:
vacation homes are generally pretty poor investments, too much upkeep $$ and its a pain in the ass to manage a property thats hundreds or thousands of miles away.

When you get it, let me know.
A week or so away wouldn't be so bad.
I'm good company.

Not everything has to be an investment.
Some people just like to get away and enjoy life.

Buying a home is always an investment. But I heard the market was good in Orlando, Vegas, and Phoenix or Scottsdale. Like manageable cheap. I could take my family to all 3. But if there's something better in a better market then I'm good.

Sure, but don't be such a downer. You're in Gainesville right? Orlando is said to be a good market. I had a friend buy 2 properties there for less than 100k combined. He even said a decent area. Is the city dead or what?

Orlando is boring as hell, Miami exists. It's expensive though.

Orlando has all the theme parks, bro. I like them. I'm a kid at heart, though.
Lots of good food, fun rides, entertainment, etc.

My friend just bought a nice size property for 45k in Orlando. Nice home from the pics he sent. That's why I was looking into it. He's owned for a year now and so far he's said he's made a good investment

How's the market in Scottsdale? I head it's super cheap. Tons of for closures in great areas with homes going for sub 50k. Is this true?

45k? Holy shit
In Miami that gets you a busted up shack in the roughest hoods.

scottsdale is not super cheap. its pretty much the wealthiest suburb of phoenix. the median home sale price there is like 400k
have you been to scottsdale? or orlando? these places are boring ass suburbias full of soccer moms and retirees....not a very exciting place to own a vacation house unless you are geriatric.

Are you speaking from experience or just what you heard? I have family that travels to Phoenix frequently and have a blast. Great weather, good golfing, and great food. Orlando has a ton of amusement parks. Great for kids. Plus I was think the option to sublet or rent to time share.

i have visited both
phoenix weather is nice during the winter but its unbearably hot during prime summer vacation months.
orlando does have amusement parks... realistically how many times do you think you and your kids will want to visit those parks?
you can find good golf and good food all over the country.
if you plan on renting the place out its gonna be a pain in the ass, again i am speaking from experience here.

Thanks for the input. What about Vegas?

Vegas is def my favorite option out of the places you have listed. There is an order of magnitude more stuff to do there than in a place like Scottsdale.
personally I wouldn't invest in a vacation home unless it was in a place that I wanted to spend a ton of time and money was not an issue.

Not sure about the market in scottsdale but nanners is sort of right. Summer in phoenix or scottsdale is unbearable, we're talking about 115 degree days. But spring is possibly the best city you can be in during that season. Hence why pga hosts there tournaments in scottsdale. Winter is pretty good too, it's just summer is a big no no.
There a lot of lakes to visit nearby tho.

Well I have property in the Phillipines I want to invest in. It's cheap to build houses there. Plus I have family who van manage the house need be.
So you think a cottage is a better option?

Dude got a house for 45,000???? Jesus I need to live somewhere that sucks it's a lot more affordable.
I choose Vegas by the way, but Phillipines would be my choice over that for sure. Provided you can afford to regularly fly there.

if you already have property and family in the philippines i would def be looking at building something over there. not only will your money go a lot farther, but i would think it will feel much more like an actual "vacation home" than anything you would find for cheap in a place like vegas or florida. you can probably build an awesome house in the philippines for less than 40k.

Totally. My cousin built a 2500 square foot property on our land. And I will develop it eventually.
I do want something closer to home though.

You could buy a rental and place it on Airbnb or some other vacation rental website for the time you aren't using it but it will be alot of work dealing with renters, cleaners, management company etc.
Personally I like Orlando the most due to the accessibility to the beach.
