For Cruz to win, it has to get to a two man race and fast. Then he would have to kill Trump which is a long shot. Small victories wouldn't get Cruz to the nomination.

However, there is a definite possibility for Trump not to win 1237 delegates either.

Trump is the weakest frontrunner since primaries have started. The front half of the primary schedule was weighted towards States where the demographics showed Trump doing well. The second half has a lot of states where he won't two well. Trump polls best in the south.

Even if he wins Ohio AND Florida, he only has a small margin of error. I think he loses Ohio. If he wins both he's still only 50-50 to get to 1237. (https://s3.amazonaws.com/ei-static/Pathto1237Memo-031116.pdf) Right now Kasich has a very small lead in Ohio.

cruz might be able to get the nomination if the gop establishment throws their weight behind him (unlikely because they hate him), but i dont see any way he could win the general election. cruz is probably the single most hated politician in the country, especially among moderates and independents. basically everyone in this country who is not a hard core right wing evangelical christian despises the man.
