The 2016 NCAA basketball tournament March Madness discussion thread!

Discuss the games here.

I love how UK is a #4 seed but have the 7th best odds to win the championship.

I'd like to bet on them at some point, but so would everyone else apparently. Tried getting tickets to the first round but any UK game is so expensive, it's ridiculous.

I did go to the championship in Dallas, but other than that, if you don't have a few hundred dollars laying around, you aren't going to get to watch them play.

Good luck to all!

Such an open field this season.

Go Duke...love those white boys representing. Need Ingram to show he's the #1 pick, though.

Michigan escapes, they are my darkhorse to win it all with that 3 point shooting  lol ok not really, but I'm a fan of them.

In here, discuss all things March/April Madness

The First 4 are done, Florida Gulf Coast and Holy Cross are the 16th seeds that move on to get massacred by 1 seeds.
Wichita State and Michigan are the two 11th seeds to move on and play the 6 seeds.

Which is your favorite 12th seed to win? There's usually 1 or 2 that shock the 5th seeds. I got Yale.

Holy cross won
I'm certain at least 80% had Holy Cross losing. I doubt people put that much time in that matchup. They just looked at the win/loss records and decided.

There's all this talk about parity, but I don't see too many mid or lower level seeds getting too far in this tourney, especially considering how the brackets are set up. Providence can easily go far in the tournament, but they go against UNC in the 2nd round, and they ain't getting past them.

They're cheap if you get a session AFTER the first set of games.

I got tickets to the championship game, lower level, for around $300 in Dallas the year UK played UConn.

Florida was favored that year, so when Florida lost, there was a flood of tickets from pissed off Florida fans who just wanted to get the hell home.

Two years ago the championship game was between an 8 and a 9 seed. It was UK and u Conn but still... if you kept up with the season, nobody predicted they'd make it that far.

Other than last year, they're pretty much a guaranteed bust every go around.

2014 - Lost to Mercer first round.
2013 - Lost to Louisville in the EE
2012 - Lost to Lehigh first round
2011 - Lost to Arizona in the SS

They won the championship in 2010 but before that, they hadn't made the final four 5 years in a row.

So in a nut shell, in the past 11 years, they've won two titles, while 8 of the other 9 years they didn't make it past the elite eight.

Last one. Of course, everyone acting like he came out of nowhere when he was a McDonald's AA, only now getting a shot as a senior because of an injury.

Their perceived lack of depth has a top 15 recruit sitting on his hands a transfer who averaged almost a double double as a freshman.

Also, their team doesn't play a lick of defense.

Doesn't mean shit. Almost every player on UK's roster is a 4* or 5* recruit (I think they all may be minus the walk-ons), yet they'll only go 8 deep, at most.

The rest of them need time to develop.

It does mean shit when the very loud narrative is they're playing with only 6 players. Jesus Christ, the talent they may have on the bench doesn't even get off the bench other than in emergency circumstances. They don't use 6 guys because they only have 6 guys, They use 6 guys because that's all K wants to play. You're telling me someone with Obi's size, athleticism, and motor can't at least give a little interior defense, rebounding, and some fouls?

Roy's need to play everyone most of the year drives me nuts and I'm sure causes a loss or two when there shouldn't be one. But at least by the tournament we know who can contribute and if by chance those guys need to come off the bench in a crucial game, they aren't shitting themselves.

The last play was so well-drawn, well-executed. But Duke's help defense forced Yale's man down low to adjust his layup mid-air which caused him to miss. Nevertheless, I appreciate team ball in late game situations, better than ISO's unless it's Kobe or Lebron.

There are so many top teams right now with so much size and length that make it so hard to penetrate. They have to set real plays to get scores in the inside. It's almost the opposite of the swingman-driven NBA.

Is Sabonis touted to be a star at the NBA level?

First rounder for sure, but not a star. He's way too developed for just turned 20 sophomore PF/C which makes him instant contributor at NBA level but leaves less room for improvement. His ceiling is not high but there is like 0% percent chance of him busting completely. He will be rotational player at the very least and decent starter at best in most of the scouts scenarios. Poeltl is projected as a star but Sabonis handled him like a child.

Poeltl seems like the type of big who has bust written all over him. I could easily see Sabonis having a David Lee type of career and having a much higher ceiling than Poeltl. Sabonis is already a great rebounder which almost always translates to the NBA and he has the type of aggressiveness that you want in a big. His shot is pretty solid too and I could see him being a great 5 on a team that likes to play small.

Name a single player in NBA history who struggled because "he wasn't allowed to grow"?

We wouldn't know how many times it has happened, because by definition, it is a player who didn't get the chance to play many minutes.

So, unless someone here is some scout who goes to nba practices, nobody would know.

We do know however that some players stepped up and surprised people when the person ahead of them was injured. T-mac when Grant Hill was injured, Collison when Chris Paul was injured, etc.

So, it probably occurs at least somewhat.

They play like a 7 man rotation and have horrid depth.

Most teams play about 8 players and K has always been a proponent of short rotations and playing his top guys close to 40 minutes. Almost every team in the country would love that roster.

You do realize they have potentially the top prospect in college basketball (tho, I'm still a Simmons guy), a 20 ppg+ scorer, what was the #1 PG in his incredibly stacked class before he reclassified this summer, and 5 other McDonald's AA? That's 5 others on top of Allen, Ingram, and Thornton, who obviously would have been one had he not reclassified. I'll give you one is injured.

If we assume Thornton would have been one because he would have... That's almost as much as the the rest of the ACC (would be 8 vs 10).

Stop getting all of your info from ESPN and get the devil's dick out of your mouth.

Dixon going to TCU from Pitt. I know we got a Pitt fan on here. Hope you guys get Archie Miller.

btw, ACC with a record 6 teams in the Sweet 16. All year it's been about the Big 12 and Big Ten. Somehow the Pac 12 gets overseeded all over place. And the ACC remains king in the end. That's with Louisville sitting out.

Thornton is horrible. Their C depth is Plumlee...and that's it. Zero depth at PF/C. Jefferson is out with a broken ankle. Who cares how many McDonald's players they have if they can't play? Jeter has been a dud and only plays 8 minutes a game. Matt Jones is decent at best.

Allen and Ingram are the only two dudes they can rely on offensively.

You know damn well they have zero depth and it would be shocking if they made the final 4, especially after their start to the season that led some to believe they may even miss the tournament.

And I agree with you about Ingram. 6'9 and LONG with skills out the ass. He'll be a superstar. Poor man's KD, but I actually think he's more polished than KD was at 19; i.e in the post, as a passer, etc. KD was just more athletic and a more dominant shooter.

I love Sabonis's kid. He's like a legit bigman. Would love to have him on the Knicks. Wishful thinking, no picks :(

IU pretty much banned from playing defense at all. Seven fouls whistled in four minutes...maybe two were remotely legit. Shitty thing to watch. Let these kids play.

Wow, how did that ref even call the out of bounds, he was on the sideline not the baseline.

Less than an inch though, wow.

The Ducks are headed to the championship game.

They have stellar guard play and a center who shoots the 3 and blocks shots

OU/Oregon might be the game of the year. Two of the most exciting teams in the country. Oregon has better depth, but OU has the player of the year and more experience.

OU by 3

Oregons gonna try to shutdown Hield all game. It won't work though... he'll drop something like 31/8/4 on y'all n1ggas on route to the final 4. Cousins might be the X factor for OU... he's due for a big game

Buddy and this Oklahoma team are too good. Them and Kansas, should they make it past Nova, will be one of the best matchups in recent history.

Didn't expect this. OU's dominating every aspect.

Final Four bound. Pac 12 sucks.

Hield is a future GOAT.

Is this nikka Ochefu not an NBA prospect? I don't see him on mock drafts. He looked pretty dominant down low.

There's like 300 D-1 college teams. Only four of them go the Final Four each year. That's a major accomplishment.

He's a horrible defender if switched onto a guard or forward who plays the perimeter

Dude has no recovery speed what so ever

He's a senior and the NBA is all about getting those 19 and 20 year old freshmen who have, in their minds, higher ceilings than the 21-23 year old juniors and seniors.

Anyway, Brice is a fu***** stud. He's got great athleticism, a polished and explosive post game, and has added a consistently good mid-range jumper to his game this year.

To be fair there hasnt been a single impressive senior drafted this past draft

I had nova vs UNC in the title game so I'm still alive in the ISH bracket. I was hesitant to talk about it in case I jinx it, but who really cares? It's not like we get a prize or anyone even acknowledges anything :lol
