Everyone thought Jimmer was going to be one of the greatest players of all time, and was going to break numerous records on the way to one of the most historic individual and team seasons at his peak?

Why did he get drafted 10th then?

Curry is what most players aspire to be, the GOAT.

Nobody expected this out of Jimmer. Nobody expected this out of anybody.

Because he physically wasn't NBA ready but could shoot lights out

Nobody thought that. Nobody expected this from Curry, and he got drafter higher than Jimmer.

People knew Jimmer's only hope was to be JJ Reddick. Most people viewed that as Curry's floor.

I remember Adam Morrison getting similar hype.

Curry had enough NBA athletiscm that people knew he wouldn't flop. He could shoot and he was quick in a steve nash way.

Jimmer can shoot but all those college step backs were going to get blocked in the NBA.

WRONG. I don't think anbody had jimmer becoming the face of the league. curry became that from virtually out of nowhere. If you go back 3 seasons ago hell 2 seasons ago...you can make an argument that curry wasn't even a household name outside of the west coast at the time.

I had jimmer pegged as a slightly better jj Reddick because he had better control over the ball than jj redick and had more pep in his step to say.

curry and jimmer were very similar as far as their college careers are concerned but curry just made leaps an dbounds that I don't think we will see for quite a while. Curry might be the first player in a long time that actually broke his broke his ceiling. of course a lot of training goes into that

Curry got serious hype post AS break in his rookie season. He nearly got the 20-5-5 Evans - something only Oscar, Jordan and Lebron have done in their rookie year - in the RotY race. Jimmer was questioned even pre darft. He was seen as a Steve Novak with even better range and nothing else. What got him even to 10th pick was the internet hype. Teams thought he's marketable. That's it.

You say Curry was not a household name his first 2 NBA season-he was a national household name since his days in college.

2008 - exceptional play through the elite 8
2009 - div1 leading scorer, all American honors

As good as he was, I wouldn't say he was a national household name. Hansbrough, Redick, Jimmer, even Morrison probably got more national exposure than curry.

a COLLEGE star does not make you an NBA household name. plus like somebody already posted..his senior year at Davidson was a failure IF you compare it to the previous year....think he got bounced in the first round of the nit to a patty mills led saint marys team.

This is just my opinion but at the time his draft class was considered to be very WEAK.....imagine if he came out the year before with drose and those guys........even with that steallar year he had in 08.....I say he would of been a bottom first round pick.

Because of where he played. But anyone who remotely kept up with college basketball and NBA prospects knew who Steph Curry was. In 08 he was probably the second biggest story of the entire tournament. A tournament with 4 #1 seeds in the F4 (and all 4 teams were great), a national championship game going to OT, and just a shit load of upsets all tournament until that F4.

His senior year was fine. His team lost some upperclassmen from the E8 team and Steph moved from SG to PG. A relatively big offseason headline I still remember even though I don't give a shit about Davidson.

:oldlol: Jimmer was one of the most obvious busts of the last decade. Up there with Thabeet. Literally nobody thought he'd be Curry.

im divided regarding jimmer. on the one hand, jimmer was way overrated due to his volume college games, playing against weak college-defense, way lower pace etc. On the other hand, jimmer never got the chance to really unfold his strenght, given the small amount of minutes he played.

sayin that, jimmer never had the problems of someone like adam morrison, who played with type 1 diabtes and had to control his blood levels 3-4 times a day and even during the games.
