The contract situation almost REQUIRES it. If he signs with another team this offseason he would get a 4 year deal for:
26.7
27.9
29.2
30.5
___
4/114.3M
If he signs a 1+1 he has two years guaranteed and he will be able to sign a 4 yr deal for:
38.5
40.2
42.0
43.9
_____
4/164.7
Do you really think he is going to walk away from 50M this offseason? That also places him and Russell in the same FA window.
The reason for the discrepancy is the huge difference in expected salary cap (89 vs 110M) and him reaching his 10 year (can sign for 35% of the cap rather than 30%).
For all the talk about his FA, we are going to have to do it all over again next year. Only then, he will probably leave.

He signed a 300 million dollar contract with Nike. The Warriors can only sign Durant this summer. Next summer they won't be able to create the cap space. If Durant really wants to play with Curry, Klay, and Draygod that IMO would be the only reason to leave OKC this summer. Otherwise he can pretty much join any team he wants in 2017 at a higher salary.

Why cant Durant just sign a 1+1 with any team he likes this offseason, and then basically hold them hostange during the next offseason?
The Lebron Tactic (Trademarked)
Not really. He can sign a 1-1 deal anywhere, and will be eligible for 35% of the cap as a 10 year vet in 2017. Which will likely be equal or possibly greater than what his bird rights Max is.
The only difference is the raises, and the 5th year that OKC will be able to offer, but i doubt that matters much in the grand scheme. The decision is going to come down to what he views to be the best basketball situation. He's going to be paid handsomely regardless.

If he signs a 1+1 elsewhere he doesn't maintain full Bird Rights. Which would impact the receiving team's ability to play cap games for two offseasons.
Whiteside, for instance, has no bird rights with Miami. Miami can pay him ~5M. If they pay him any more they have to stay under the cap.

True, if he wants to go to GSW he would need to do so this offseason. I really don't think this is on the table. Can you imagine? An MVP player joining a 75 win team?
But if he wants to it would need to be this year.
I don't see him reupping in OKC without assurances from RWB. And he certainly has a vested interest in NOT doing so this year anyways.
A Blake/KD trade would be insane. That's the only thing I can actually see happening.

Would be a smart proactive move by OKC. Blake is from Oklahoma so he would actually re-sign.

Depends how badly he wants out of OKC.. He has plenty of Nike money so doubt that's going to be a factor..
A better market team and he'll make that up in further endorsements in no time

Hell probably just sign a 1 year deal and him and westbrick will both decide what they are going to do next year.

I think he will resign with OKC as well for just 1 year and see how it plays out. The only thing is that I don't see Durant and Westbrook playing together beyond next season. I understand they get along great but their game just doesn't compliment each other they way they think.
I don't think many teams other then OKC that can afford both of them without S&T or depleting their existing rosters that doesn't make sense either.

The Lebron Tactic (Trademarked)Precisely.
The idea Durant would need to stay in OKC to wait it out For a new big deal, to take advantage of the bigger leaguewide new deal, is pure idiocy.
OP, you can do math! We know you're not an idiot !

Best player in the world.
Durant is only 27 years old. He can sign a 4 year deal with the warriors with a player option for the 4th year. Opt out after 3 peating with the dubs and re-sign for 5 years for the full maximum. :confusedshrug:
