View Full Version : ISH Combine: What's your standing long-jump?

Place your toes behind a starting line. Jump with both legs from a standstill as far forward as you can. Measure where your furthest back (closest to the starting line) heel lands. This is your standing long-jump like they do in the NFL Combine. It also used to be an Olympic event.

Current world record is held by Byron Jones, at 12 feet 3 inches for reference:

It's one thing to say it but you don't get official ISH cred unless you film/upload yourself doing it which I intend to do. Also, if you want to go by ratio instead of height just take the number and divide it by your height for your jump to height ratio.

Participants:

CavaliersFTW 8'5" (101 inches, 256.5 cm). I'm 5'11 barefoot, so 1.42 ratio

Probably obvious but will point it out anyways, you cannot take any kind of step before the jump, it must be done from a complete standstill (and both toes most be on the line - it's not a one leg stride). If you fall or step backwards after your landing, the part of your body that touches closest to the starting point is where the measurement is taken. So if you jump and stagger backwards on one of your hands, the spot where your hand touches is as far as you got even if your feet landed ahead of it so don't lose your balance/composure on your landing.

I used to be hella good at all things jumping. My legs are THICK and strong ftw.

Unfortunately these days my frame is just too heavy to do it like I used to.

Used to be like a white prime d-wade. Now Im like a white current dwade :(

My legs are skinny, but I got that high twitch muscle type. Do the test anyways, you can always get in better shape later and improve on it.

Prop it against something or clothespin it, or have someone hold it. Roll out a tape measure to jump along side.

Are you a one leg or two leg dunker? (probably two.. those ass-cheeks look hella weak)

I don't dunk, but I can jump at least distance wise better than the average joe with one leg, or two, doesn't matter.

Now, can I jump better than the average ISHer? People who by virtue of their fandom of basketball are likely taller and potentially better than average jumpers in their own right? Don't know. If posters like ranked12th really jump 10 feet plus than there might be some really impressive athletes on here.

I'm skeptical of that number though. 10 feet 4 inches is better than all but 7 of the best NFL running back candidates from the 2014 combine:

Well just going based off his username, I think that poster might actually be Kobe Bryant.

Kobe is ranked 12th.

I used to do the triple jump back in middle school when I ran track and field. I maxed out on 32 or 33 feet(or w/e the standard measurement is for tipple jump) in the 8th grade. But that was the last of it because I gave up the sport as I bulked too much for other sports. But I remember being bad at long jump.

Looking back at it track and field is kinda cool. At the time, everyone thought it was for nerds but all the different events is kinda cool. Like throwing a ****ing disc and jumping hurdles.
