Katt "Katt N Da Hat" Williams on Comic View in 2001 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46kZ_ai0Ijs)

This is back when he went by the name, Katt N Da Hat. This was pretty bad, when you can't get a Comic View audience to feel your material. What I want to know is who did he steal his current act from? Because just a few years later, he had a different voice and everything.

Swiped the entire act from me.

Katt Williams has never been funny. He doesn't have a single good joke.

Dude just yells and swears.

Isn't that your boy though?
And on the other hand, a young Kevin Hart killing the audience.

i never found him funny. i think his success came from his geeky voice and malnourished pimp look for movies.

Yeah, I rank him up there with Pryor and Mooney as one of the best black comics ever. And I don't understand what is so incriminating about this clip? He's doing bits he would later use in his specials? So?

There are better examples of incriminating old clips of comics (Denis Leary) where you can see them perform not only hacky ass material but doing it pre-'persona'. The clip you posted here was neither of those. This was pretty funny for place and time. Voice was different and that's it.

Katt is perhaps "washed up" now but he's living rent free in your head. What is this like your third thread on him in a month? :facepalm Unless you're actually a negro historian no need to push his shit in like this.

So very very much this. Every other word is just n*ggas, mothaf*ckin, and bitches. Buddy of mine made me sit through like four of his stand-up specials a few years back. I don't get him at all.

Mmm. Nothing you can relate to in any of his material.

Whole lot of talk about him being a pimp, and just generally acting like a try hard poser IMO. Don't exactly know how a dude like this can go after Kevin Hart and say he sold out when his whole routine and gimmick is... literally just that. At least Kevin is funny in his stand up.

Are you serious? Katt can't even touch Richard's crack pipe, let alone comedy. He's not even on DL Hughley's level. I have Katt N Da Hatt right outside the top 40 black comics all-time. And universal comics, not even in the top 100.

No order:

Foxx (Redd, not Jamie)
Cosby
Allen
Lenny Bruce
Pryor
Carlin
Dangerfield
Steve Martin
Murphy
Rock

PS. Moms Mabley & Phyllis Diller for the women. Women tend to get overlooked in stand-up.

Not my personal top ten, but just from studying and researching stand-up. These gentleman have to be in the top ten (or close to it.)
My personal top ten, I'd add a few like Damon Wayans and Sam Kinison.

30-35 is a good number. Hell, how much higher should he be.

:coleman:
(not using a Chappelle smile whem discussing the comedian, lol)

:facepalm :facepalm
But you think Katt Williams is the second coming of Pryor. I'm afraid to see what you think of Chappelle.

How do you rank Paul Mooney?

How do you rank Paul Mooney?
Mooney, is really difficult to rank. Mooney has been around since the early 70s. Mooney helped Pryor a whole lot. Mooney was a writer on shows like Sanford and Son (Redd Foxx) and Good Times (Jimmie Walker, underrated stand up. Folks don't even realize he was a comic.) He was responsible for the talent on the Richard Pryor Show. Like Robin Williams, Sandra Bernhard, John Witherspoon and Tim Reid (WKRP in Cincinnati fame, also a funny stand-up. Actually teamed with Tom Dressen.)

He was the head writer for In Living Color and created many characters like Homey the Clown. Watch the character again, and now think Paul Mooney. And in the 2000s, was a writer on Chappelle's Show.

He's been doing stand up, during all of this. But it was rarely seen. He's done stand up on Soul Train in the 70s, a Robert Townsend HBO special in the 80s and Def Comedy Jam in the 90s.

But it was like, once they seen him on Chappelle's Show they were like "who is this new old guy?"

It's hard to rank a guy who's been in the game since afros hit the scene and didn't film his first special until 2002. He does have a few comedy albums, but still those are from the 90s. Though, even back in the 70s he's always been dark and real.
