A lot of people are scared of Durant joining the dubs this summer. Honestly IMO there is a 30% chance he joins the dubs this summer. However, IMO there is a 70% chance he does re-sign with the Thunder on a 2 year deal with a player option for the 2nd year. If he makes this move I think Durant and Westbrook will become a package deal. The Lakers would emerge as a major threat to sign both especially with Phil Jackson having an opt out after this season. I could see Jeanie Buss forcing Jim Buss to hire Luke Walton as the head coach. Phil could take over as the team president in 2017 and have his head coach already in place. The Lakers also have shot at landing Simmons or Ingram.

Russell, Clarkson, Randle, and even Nance Jr are talented young pieces. Adding a guy like Simmons or Ingram to that core would give the Lakers a bright future. The Lakers estimated cap space for 2017 is $83,043,904. Assuming the Lakers re-sign Clarkson for 15 million per year(inflation due to the increasing salary cap) and you add in Simmons/Ingram's salary of approximately $5,332,800 the Lakers will have 60+ million to work with in 2017. They could give out 2 maximum contracts.

Russell/Lou Williams
Westbrook/Clarkson
Ingram
Durant/Nance Jr
Randle/

Randle and Lou Williams would probably have to be traded for a center. If Randle develops a jump shot over the summer he can become a 20 and 10 guy which would increase his trade value. I could see a trade for WCS happening. A move like that would open up 7 million dollars in additional cap room assuming that the Kings will have cap space to absorb Lou Williams deal.

Russell
Westbrook/Clarkson
Ingram
Durant/Nance Jr
WCS

Most people on this board hate the Lakers more than any other franchise so Durant signing with the Dubs maybe the lesser of 2 evils.

Westbrook is not becoming a SG at this point in his career. Too good with the ball in his hands to hand those reins over. If he goes to the Lakers (I don't see it), Russell would need flipped to another team to balance the team more.

Westbrook can rack up assists but it's at the expense of controlling the tempo of the game. I liked Westbrook when Harden was on the Thunder. Harden ran the offense and Westbrook was still effective off the ball. I think Russell can become an excellent passer if Luke is the coach. Dude is capable of 10+ assists a game.

He is averaging 11.7 PPG and 10.1 RPG in only 27.8 minutes per game. I said IF he develops a jumper(like Kawhi did) he will become a 20 and 10 guy. Can Julius Randle become a 20 and 10 guy if develops a J and plays 35 minutes per game? Absolutely.

Randle can develop a jumper all he likes, it doesn't mean he'll become as good a shooter as Kawhi is.
