View Full Version : Trump is taking over NY.

The poll of New York state, conducted by Boston’s Emerson College, has Trump dominating his only two remaining competitors in the Empire State with 65 percent of Republicans there backing him. Only 12 percent back Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump’s closest competitor, and just one percent support Ohio Gov. John Kasich.

But wait, there's more:

Trump’s favorables are also higher than Cruz’s or Kasich’s ratings. “Trump has the highest favorable ratings with GOP voters, 71%/23%, followed by Cruz at 52%/44% and Kasich at 54%/34%,” the polling release states. “Consistent with other primaries, Trump supporters are the most loyal, with 89% of those who see him favorably planning to cast their ballot for him. In contrast, only 21% of Republicans who have a favorable opinion of Cruz say they will vote for him.”

Several Republicans, including Florida Gov. Rick Scott, are saying it’s now time for the GOP to coalesce behind Trump as the nominee heading into the general election.

He's got a numbers game going in his favor as well:

More people voted for Trump than for Clinton in two states Tuesday night — Missouri and Ohio. In Florida, Clinton edged Trump by a nose — less than 2 percent. Clinton had only one other candidate splitting the Democratic vote in a contested election, while Trump was embroiled in a four-way contest that factionalized Republican voters.

But here's the best part:

If Trump were to turn Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, however, he’d have enough electoral votes to best whoever wins the Democratic nomination — even if he lost every other swing state except Missouri.

Although I will never vote for Trump, Democrats and establishment Republicans both hate him. Since, IMO, both groups suck ass, then Trump must be a good thing.

I want him to win just to see the country meltdown.

From the same poll...

Looking ahead to the general election, the two Democrats do equally well in a head-to-head matchup with Trump. Clinton (55% to 36%) and Sanders (53% to 36%) lead the reality show star by 19 and 17 points, respectively, while Cruz loses to Clinton by 31 points (61% to 30%).

I fall in a similar line of thinking. If the establishment which includes the mass media and the GOP hate him then he must be doing something right. It comes down to Donald Trump not taking establishment money and that scares the shit out of them and it's the same reason why Bernie is so unpopular in the media compared to Clinton. The establishment want someone they can control and the fact Donald Trump is someone that is willing to tell them to **** off (for now atleast) makes him an enemy.

I have never seen someone go to a room full of lobbyist and tell them he doesn't want their money. Or the fact he can debate a politician and tell them they are funded by lobbyist while he is not makes him dangerous to the establishment. Now if he creates a superpac and if he doesn't push for reforms for political contributions (the latter is something he really hasn't addressed) then I will change my stance.

clinton and trump aren't comparable .. clinton is the known dem candidate and presumed nominee .. she wasn't even supposed to have a legitimate challenger .. .. so of course they've been attacking her since the start ..

trump was supposed to be a joke candidate .. not to be taken seriously .. but now clinton is taking him very seriously .. if he was still a joke candidate and easy win, she would be staying quiet and enjoying the show .. 'let him get to the ge' .. instead she's going after him before he even secures the nomination .. because she sees him as a legitimate threat .. she is going down if she has to face him and she knows it

That could be partially true but if Donald Trump had a large superpac to support him he wouldn't be attacked as much. If the establishment knew he would play ball and not do whatever he wanted he would be fine in their eyes and be praised by them.

It's similar to reason why the establishment dislike Bernie and praises Hillary.

Point is money matters much more in politics than anything else. Donald Trump is the only politician without large political contributors (like Sanders) and has used the mass media for free publicity. The same guy even attacks Fox News and says he prefers CNN. Imagine in 2016 the leading Republican president telling Fox News to go **** themselves?

You can hate Trump for some of his rhetoric but I don't see how you can hate his anti-establishment campaign.

Which is why I can't stand Trump. Ted Cruz is basically running on the same platform of anti-establishment and closing borders, and knocking out the terrorists, and lower taxes, etc, etc. However, Ted calls the establishment the "Cartel", whereas Trump calls everyone a loser and then goes on and on and attacks his fellow running mates.

That's where Trump lost me and potentially my vote if he ends up the nominee. His rhetoric is not useful, it's just inflammatory, and I think he's shut Ted Cruz out due to his rhetoric, and that's just unfair. People are attracted to him due to his cheap shots, whereas Ted is saying the same damn thing, just with a modicum of respect.

oh the horror
03-18-2016, 01:51 PM
I don't think Trump is all that "anti establishment" at all. And say it's him and Hillary at the end?

They're *both* establishment candidates. Hillary and Trump, like Obama and like Bush, are not going to do anything meaningful with regard to gross income disparity, misguided spending priorities, and war machine policies. Hillary and Trump are working opposite doors to the same tent, as near as I can tell. Come in and see the medicine show and get your bottle of Dr. Feelgood's Tonic.

Yeah, he's running as that, but it's all fake. He's a senator, he's was state attorney general, he was in the Bush administration. How the hell is he not establishment?

I don't know exactly how closely you follow politics, but there's a reason why Ted Cruz isn't liked by his colleagues. It's not because of his politics, it's personal. There are plenty of other people who are just as conservative if not more than him, but they aren't disliked like him. He's always had the reputation of being a phoney. Not to say that he isn't a real conservative, he is. But he does too much for show and throws other conservatives under the bus for no reason other than to score political points in the media.

Like when he did that filibuster for like 23 hours. He went around saying he was the only real conservative willing to stand up against Obamacare, blah, blah, blah and throwing other conservatives under the bus. But what was the point? It served no purpose. The only reason he did it was to make himself look like he's fighting against Obama even though it did nothing. It was a staged self serving spectacle that's only purpose was to gain himself some national name recognition.

He's not remotely anti establishment. He's on the right side of most issues, so that's fine. Who cares about his personality? But the reason he's not "in" with people in Washington is not because he's "anti establishment". He's as "establishment" and "insider" as anybody. The other establishment people just think he's a douche and personally dislike him because of his personality and his self serving antics, not his positions.

he will beat her ..

What do you base this on exactly? Just a gut feeling?

At this point everyone knows what both potential nominees are about- their platforms (without any actual details in Drumpf's case), their personal qualities, etc. Unless something drastic or unforseen happens, the battle lines are more or less drawn already.

The so-called swing states are leaning heavily towards Clinton (based on polls from the last month).

Florida- Clinton +7%
Ohio- Clinton +5%
Pennsylvania- Clinton +5%
Michigan- Clinton +16%
New Hampshire- Clinton +8%
Colorado- Clinton +10%
Virginia- Clinton +17%
Wisconsin- Clinton +9%
North Carolina- Tie

Hillary is polling with comfortable leads in every State except NC, which is within the margin of error.

[INDENT][These voters are] part of what you might call Clinton

Many people are already operating under the assumption that it'll be Drumpf-Clinton in the fall. Only a GOP sabotage attempt following the Cleveland Convention or the Justice Department indicting Clinton can stop that.

And the Donald already started his anti Hillary campaign with that barking ad.

Getting slaughtered in the polls regardless.

But again, maybe he has an ace up his sleeve and won't end up as Barry Goldwater 2.0
