Michael Jackson's Off the Wall and Thriller albums still remain classics today, and some may argue that due to the popularity of Thriller, it was a far better album-- however Lord Jamar begs to differ. The Brand Nubian rapper says that he doesn't care for Michael Jackson's music after his Off the Wall album because it was better than the 30 times multi-platinum album. "Off the Wall was the set up for Thriller." He said, "There wouldn't have been no Thriller if it wasn't for Off the Wall, and to me Off the Wall was his greatest album of all time."

Off The Wall is definitely better. I probably listen to Destiny and Triumph more than Thriller. Just shows how underrated those Jacksons albums are.

I was about to say, I prefer most J5 albums to Michael's solo albums. I don't think purely as musical albums Off The Wall or Thriller are anything that special. Obviously, as a landmark pivot point in history Thriller has few parallels. But so much of that was about the innovative use of music videos, choreography, and a few really strong singles. I do prefer Thriller musically to Off The Wall, which I find a little redundant. Altho I love the joints "Girlfriend" and "It's The Falling In Love."

Both are good albums. Neither are GREAT albums. IMO Michael's stature as a musician is far more about his whole package as an entertainer than the strictly musical quality of his albums.

Black pop music sucks. Too fake.

Arguing over what the best Michael Jackson album is, is like arguing over what the best Michael Bay movie is.

I'd guess this came up because of the documentary that's been floating around about the making of Off The Wall. It's a great doc if you can find it. I think it was Showtime that had it on a ton a few weeks ago.

I'm old enough to fall right into the Thriller era. Too young to have been buying albums, but old enough for the MJ videos to be the coolest thing ever, especially the Thriller stuff. But that also means I had aged out of the pop scene by the time stuff like Bad came out. But truthfully my memory of it is that even though no one thought it was cool, everyone still knew and danced to all that stuff. Unfortunately that uncool factor meant I never got too much into going backward into the MJ stuff. Since his death that stuff got way more popular, and sort of revived it among my older peers, cousins and parents whose kids I coach and the sort. After it's all said and done, I'd say the Off The Wall Album is a lot better than Thriller. But that coming from someone who isn't exactly a fan.

Michael Jackson was the coolest man in the world in 1984. The glove, the zipper jacket; Michael Jackson gear was EVERYWHERE. Then he went and became an alien.
