View Full Version : Do people who vote care about the country or themselves?

So some people are very passionate about politics and want their guy/party to win, but most people don't really care about other people.
So is it all a selfish move (ie a rich guy voting against Bernie Sanders because he doesn't want his taxes to go up) or are people just into it for entertainment or what?

Wealthy liberals and poor, perhaps middle class conservatives vote against their best interest in regards to their bank account. Wealthy conservatives and poor/lower middle income liberals definitely try and vote themselves as much money, benefits, and tax breaks as possible.
So I would say, wealthy liberals and the poor/middle class conservatives care most about the country.

I don't vote, but I definitely want the candidate to win who would represent the best outlook for my own situation. I care about the country of course, but like most people, I care about myself more.

I vote for what I feel like will make the country better. I'm pro-choice and that has nothing to do with my own personal situation, but it is a big deal to me because I feel like it helps the country a ton...In fact I KNOW abortion helps the country, that's not even an opinion.
I also want college debt help which does in fact help me because I have two kids, however I know that will help millions just like me.

The top issues are always economy and health care...those are issues that help each of us individually and the entire country as a whole.

Then you should be demanding that the government get out of the college loan business. What do you think cranked up the price of college in the first place?

Americans are the easiest sheep to herd. Just look how strong the bandwagon mentality is. I would say that maybe 10 percent of americans think for themselves and the rest just believe they think for themselves.

What would make the country best is adhering to the strong principles it was founded on though. Abortion is not a federal issue. If you're honestly picking candidates for Congress and for President based on their abortion stances?? That's actually voting selfishly, because you're trying to get candidates in there who will do whatever you would LIKE them to be doing, rather than what they objectively should be doing.
The vast majority of people do this. It's extremely hard not to, tbh. Humans are a hypocritical lot by nature.

I was just using abortion as an example of an issue I actually care about that doesn't effect me directly.
I care about many issues...
