and we all tore Kobe a new one because of it. and at that time, it seemed rightfully so

If i remember correctly, he told him that while he was still in orlando, and because of it, he opted in to stay 1 more year.

back to current day, if dwight played with that mentality of being a teams main defensive presence and a rebounding monster, hed be a much more desired commodity around the league and more likely would have had more successful teams

is it too late for dwight to embrace that role? or will his ego forever be his achilles heel

Umm, that's what he's been his whole career. Sure, he bitches about more touches but most of his points came off put backs, lobs and FTs. His career FGA of 11.2 per game is proof of this. And that enabled him to get to one finals as "the man" and upset the heavily favored Cavs.

his orlando team was designed in a way that gave him the bill russell role. once he left that kind of offense, he felt he should have still been the #1 option on his new teams, when he lacked any sort of post game/moves. dwight bitching about how he should be the focus on offense is why hes been viewed as a negative on his teams in recent years

His role was always the same. The difference is that when he was in Orlando, he was at his peak/prime so he impacted the game more and won. It's when you start to lose when the critics start to come out of the woodworks.

Dwight is one of the better rim protectors, rebounders, defenders and P&R bigs of all time. Whether you like him or not, he was VERY impactful at his peak/prime. Long, athletic as hell, mobile and just so explosive off the floor.

exactly. and if he continued to focus on that role hed still be wanted by all 30 teams in the league. but as of now, hes not that player anymore because he still has the mentality that he should be creating his own shots on offense and when he doesnt get those opportunities, he points fingers.

Teams don't want him now because he is past his prime. For a big who relies almost exclusively on natural athleticism, he already peaked. He is turning 31 this year. If this was peak/prime Orlando Dwight, teams would want him despite his "issues". But it's only because he's past his peak and losing why people jump on Dwight more. Winning shuts up a lot of people.

Like if Boogie was winning in Sac town, people would let his antics slide a lot more easily. But that dude isn't winning sh*t.
