As a Mexican American, I couldn't believe this shit actually happens in the US.

A few years back, well actually more than a few years ago, in the late 90's to be exact, I had the misfortune of being ripped off by some Federales, they jacked a DVD player I was going to gift to my aunt. They just literally made up a bullshit story that I was buying US priducts to sell in Mexico without having a commercial license to sell and what not. Obviously I felt violated and pissed off but I chalked it off as something I had to deal with living in a corrupt country and something like that doesn't happen in America...

I couldn't be more wrong. Funny thing is that Americans have it so ingrained in their heads that the US is exceptional and special, that the police are honest but the fact is that all kinds of corruption and criminal activity committed by the police go unpunished because most Americans refuse to believe that the shit that John Oliver talks about in the video happens in the US. At least in Mexico, we know that shit happens and steps have been taken to combat that, like civic organization oversight on police misconduct, meanwhile, most Americans are getting their shit pushed in by the government and have no idea what's going on...
