I thought this team could be dangerous if they pulled it all together by playoff time... but that doesn't look like it's gonna happen. They got whooped on tonight by the Magic with no Vuc' or 'Dipo. :facepalm
People talk about the Rockets as the most disappointing team this season, but if the Bulls miss the playoffs, I think they may take that title.

This.
I've been touting all along that it the offensive stagnancies were due to the personnel, not his coaching. The fact that his successor who's putatively more of an offensive specialist--Fred Hoiberg--has coached virtually the same team to worse offense-ratings should illustrate all that needs to be said.
At least with a playoffs elimination, they won't inevitably lose against another LeBron-led team.

Doug McDermott not gonna be enough to get the bulls a playoff spot, jimmy g buckets is gonna have to get hot soon.

i didnt watch the bulls for months now, but looking at the boxscore, it seems that gasol is getting tired coming down the stretch.
butler is considerably worse than before his injury, maybe even hurting his team right now. i read that he probably will undergo a second surgery during the offseason.

Thibs can make this team a playoff team. Yeah, Bulls might miss the playoffs, but I think it's a blessing. Their star player is too injury prone and isn't the same player he used to be. Butler's ceiling is Scottie Pippen role. Gasol will be leaving after this season I think. Tank the next season, and draft a new promising franchise player.

bulls can still make the playoffs being that detroit lost last night also, and the bulls have 1 game against them next week, and still have the pieces to upset the cavs. but i doubt they go beyond the 2nd or third round. hoiberg is a terrible coach and needs to die.

Derrick Roses bitch ass got him fired.
If Rose just came back from his injuries like a man and played basketball like he could, Thibs would still have a job and the Bulls would be perennial ECF losers.

Basketball Hell is the absolute worst stage a team can be in. Good enough to regularly make the 2nd round or ECF but always getting overpowered by a superstar. Ask the Knicks in the 90's how that felt...or the Kings in the early 2000's. The Bulls have been that team since Rose was drafted. Good team, just not ever good enough to beat Lebron. Maybe them missing the playoffs is exactly what they need to realign and reassemble with some new talent. The problem is that they constantly blow free agency and get stuck with past prime targets or 2nd/3rd tier options that will never put them over the hump.
Disappointed is an understatement, but maybe, just maybe they can rebuild this off-season.
Gasol should sign with the dubs for the MLE.

Wow, every sentence contradicts the one before it and you still managed to sound dumber than your first sentence with each one.

Everytime this shows up, but it never happens.
I honestly think people overrate the Bulls because of their market and branding. Lot of it's nostalgia too. Analysts grew up watching the 90's Bulls and feel like they are some great franchise that has always played like that during their decade. The opposite is true, they've usually not been historically great franchise outside of that.
That's just me though. I think they probably will have to blow it up, but they are in horrible position to get a high pick. You never want to be in the 7-11 range in the rankings, that's no man's land.

What a lost season. They should defintely be fighting for a top seed in the east and not looking outside and with a lottery pick atm. Definitely will top the Rockets as the biggest disappointment. Then again, if they get the 8th seed, they will prob lose to Lebron....... again.

It's a combination of Noah and Rose (two of the team's cornerstones at one point) both going down with injuries during Thibs tenure in Chicago...
Maybe it's a coincidence, or maybe he's a slave driver.... idk.

the problem is rose has regressed to a role player leader. he use to demand greatness, now he delegates leadership to everyone else and hes just like meh i dont care.

The team never got it together. I can't even tell you which two players were their best combo, that's how far off the offense has been. The majority of plays were designed for the SF position even after Butler went down, there was no adjustment. The bulk of the passing was to be between Noah and Gasol which came back to hurt them too. Rose seeing double with Noah and Butler getting hurt the team never got it together. Coach never got them in a flow. They were simply bad offensively and average defensively. They weren't a running team or a half court team. Yet they had good pieces for both.

I think Thibs was let go because John Paxson (GM) hated each other.

I just looked at the standings and then came here looking for a thread like this one. Not sure what happened to this team. Outside of Butler, they were pretty healthy, no?

No. MDL was out most of the season. Noah is out for the season. gasol has had nagging injuries all year. Rose has had a quad strain all year. Butler was out a solid amount. Mirotic missed a month for appendicitis, and many more injuries. Despite all that....its the ****ing Eastern conference. They should be a 6 seed at the absolute worst. Pathetic.

They should just accept this year as a freak injury season then. No need to make changes, just come back healthier in the fall. I wouldn't panic if I was a Bulls fan. When all healthy, this team is an obvious championship contender.

Suck shit to the owners not doing shit in the offseason to improve the team. Now they will miss out on profit in the playoffs due to their underwhelming moves to make the team better and going cheap whoever possible.
I'm not terribly optimistic about the Bulls future until we get some new blood through the management starting at Reinsdorf.
Same old story. Gar/Pax needs to go too. They have failed to make basic and logical moves to get the team better.

Yep.
Completely ruined our flexibility and ability to sign/trade to get better.
F.ck the management, if Bulls fans weren't so damn loyal, these old fools would have to spend money on this team instead of riding an average one that's good enough to make playoffs, but not a contender.
Reinsdorf should move on already. He cares more about f.cking baseball.

They're done. Thibs got the most out of them and it wasn't enough. Management have cheaped out every off season now they're a mess..

Every time I watch the Bulls they don't use Gasol enough and Butler goes out of his way to not pass him the ball. You have one of the best post passers in the league and you don't play inside-out? Foolish.

blow it up??
they can get rid of everybody but keep butler, portis, dermott and mirotic and IMO that's a good enough core to compete for a playoff berth next season.....depending on who they draft or sign will determine how well they do but I don't think the bulls need a FULL REBUILD.
I just hope they realize hoiberg was the wrong decision. Bulls have always been a Defense first organization...ALWAYS......even in the years they struggled post Jordan.......DEFENSE was always the bulls bread butter so I don't understand why they felt the need to get on the analytics hype train....look where analytics have gotten the bulls, rockets etc. SMH
