Kawhi Leonard and it's not close.
The era of bigs who rim protect but suck in PNR defense winning DPOY are over.

+1 Kawhi

I'd say Kawhi, I really don't know much about advanced stats or all that stuff but watching Kawhi on defense (or play at all for that matter) is beautiful and fun to see

can you post the comparision? i just looked at dbpm
not true
Why do you say not true? Duncan is #1 in Defensive Box Plus/Minus and #2 in Defensive Rating.

The three guys with the strongest case are Kawhi, Draymond and DeAndre. I doubt DeAndre gets it, since the Clippers are far behind the Spurs/Warriors, so it's between Kawhi and Draymond.
Bogut and Duncan are playing excellent D, but in limited minutes, and they've missed lots of games.

Defensive ratings has a lot to do with the team. If you look at top 10, there are 4 spurs players. On the other hand, Whitside who is #2 is the only Heat player. I would give the edge to whitside in that.
Minutes and games played are also part of the stats. Duncan is playing 24.9 MPG and has played only 55 games, not enough to win the award.
no pun intended

Kawhi and it shouldn't even be close.
Kawhi and it's not close.
Draymond should have won last year

I agree that he shouldn't win the award, but he is leading the NBA in advanced defensive stats.
#1 in Defensive Box +/-
#1 in Defensive Real +/-
I remember reading on RealGM that he's 1st in Defensive RAPM too, but that was back in January and finding RAPM data is getting increasingly difficult.
Again, not enough minutes or games to win it, but you can very easily say when he is on the floor he's the most impactful defensive player out there. Pop calls him the centre of the universe and the Quarterback for good reason.

I say give it to Duncan. The guy is one of the best defensive players in history and he's never won DPOY. It's not like it would be entirely a career achievement thing either. He's legitimately an elite defender.

This. Kawhi didn't deserve it last season. He does this year though.
     @ the idiots saying Timmy. Dude's not holding down the defense playing like 20 minutes a game and only 2/3rd's of the season's games.

How can anybody say Duncan when his own coach decides not to play him against the leagues best team because he can't defend the PnR??

LeBron James
I know you're trolling but Lebron has been pretty bad defensively this season, and with his mileage I don't blame him for coasting on that end.
I was half joking about Duncan winning, but it's kind of a shame that he won't have a DPOY on his resume. That's the one major accolade that has eluded him, despite being an all-time great defender. He and Pippen are probably the best defenders to never win the award.

I agree. I think Duncan and Pippen never getting a DPOY award and Kobe only getting one MVP shows how accolades are not always awarded how they should be and should be taken with a grain of salt.

Yeah I was joking, but on a serious note Deandre Jordan and Whiteside should be up there this year.

I don't even like Lebron but he's holding his man to -7.1 under his usual fg% this season.
Kawhi: -5.3
Draymond: -5.9

Curry deserves a mention but I'd have to go with the favorites: Kawhi, Hassan, Dray, or Deandre
Timmy D has done an excellent job for an old man with limited minutes

Duncan may have the largest defensive impact per minute, but he's only playing 24.9 mpg.
My vote would be for Kawhi Leonard or Draymond Green.

Last year I thought it should had been Draygod's but he was snubbed. This year, Kawhi really deserves and should get it. Leading the #1 defense.

Tim Duncan and its not even close.
Best rim protector today, beastly defensive rebounder, changes the defense for the spurs immensely. The entire spurs defense revolves around duncan.

I don't think he deserves to win it, but Danny Green should make an all D team.
Duncan ... has played only 55 games, not enough to win the award.
If Duncan plays the rest of the games, he'll have played 64 games - the same number of games that Leonard won DPOY award with last year.
