Best of luck to ya lad. Just remember that money by itself cant make you happy. The Presidents on those bills cant give you good conversation or a sense of satisfaction with your purpose in life.
macmac for instance has a lot of flashy things that impress the youngsters... But what else is there to him? We dont know.
It's great to chase the dream, but chase it as a means to an end. What do you want to do with that success? It's best to have some ideas in mind while youre working toward your goals.

Yep.
It's a very helpful means to an end. But if you don't have some ends in mind, you could suddenly find that the money you worked so hard for isn't making you as happy as you'd hoped.
Happens a fair amount, unfortunately.

ok lol. Well at a certain point there is a diminishing return but not having money makes life much more difficult, and thus, could effect happiness.
Once you have enough money to meet your basic needs the incremental money you receive will not improve happiness as much.

Need to switch it up to "money can't buy eternal fulfilment" or something of that nature because money is very capable of happiness.

The people with high-paying jobs have to work LONG hours to make that money. I wouldn't want to make 70-100K if I had to work 60-80 hrs a week.
I'd rather make my current 30K and work roughly 25 hrs a week. This gives me a lot of free time to sleep in, go on vacations, walk my dog, etc.

Personally I admire that he knows what makes him happy and isn't complaining about a lack of handouts. I'm pretty sure he lives with his gf who also works, so combined they probably have a 60k household income. And I think he lives in like Maine, or something? Maybe. But again, we have plenty of people in America here who wouldn't even be eligible to donate blood because they couldn't pass a drug test, and they work zero hours a week and get checks from the government twice a month. That's the shit that should be scorned. If dude wants to work 25 hours a week and donate blood on the side to make ends meet, it aint nothin to me.

Riches to me is earning after debt and cost of living. Wealth is enjoying that money after the fact and loving what you do.
My wife has a friend who works at a Moneymart and she said you'd be surprised at the amount of lawyers and doctors that take out payday loans on an ongoing cycle to cover their debt. You can make $500,000, but if you owe $550,000 you're not rich at all.
I don't think I make the most individually, but I love my job, I work about 30-40 hours a week travelling to trade shows and schmoozing with clients, and I make just over six figures. I do exactly what I'm passionate about and love the industry I'm in. My combined family income with my wife puts us well over the average cost of living for Philadelphia with only 1 child. I don't have any debt. My school tuition was paid for by my previous company. I don't pay for my vehicle. The car, insurance, and gas+expenses are paid for by my current company. Along with my phone and internet. My house is partly deductible because I use my home as my office as I'm a satellite manager. I'm frugal as shit and would decide not to spend money even if it isn't my own. I go into investments carefully and I have property in the Philippines waiting for me to develop.
So do I make the most? Probably not. But I have no money worries, I love my job and live extremely comfortable with a family I love. For me I'm the wealthiest man on earth!

Money is not the source of happiness. If you're poor and miserable, money won't change that. It's all vanity and the illusion of happiness disappears very quickly after each purchase.
Last night i had dinner with some pretentious pricks, and while it was an expensive dinner, everyone at the end of the evening placed their amex/cc's in a purse, whichever ever Cc was selected ended up paying for the whole dinner. Of course, these fools can afford to do that -I suppose i can too with my new job - but that was the funnest part of the evening, the thrill of having one of these douchebags pay for my meal and drinks. I would have much rather had a cheap meal with good company that doesn't spend their entire evening bragging about their wealth or being pretentious. The whole evening i wished i was with my niece.

This is pretty much spot on. I'm in a similar situation. I own the place I live in and make no payments. It's not exactly where I'd like to be, but it works. I own my car outright, even though it's not the best car in the lot. I hold no credit card debt. I make about a 200 dollar a month payment on my student loan, otherwise my money is spent on my general living expenses.
I make about the same as you sounds like. Just over the six figure mark.
Seems like you have it a bit better work wise. I put in basically 55 hours a week. I'd like to do less, but it is what it is. My work can be frustrating. I spend a lot of time being berated by customers who don't know what they're asking for, but it other times it's exceptionally rewarding. Figuring something out a new and better way. And working with the technical and quality ends of my customer's workforce is often great. I do wish I got to travel a bit more for work. I used to travel a lot when I was young. I generally don't much anymore.
As much as I complain, when I do want to do something, it's awfully nice to know that I can without money being much of an issue.

You hit the nail on the head that vanity makes people unhappy. But money takes away one of the biggest stresses in life. Debt. Living debt free is one less thing to worry about and contributes greatly to happiness. Then being able to go out and do the things you like or own the things you want fulfills some of that happiness too. It's when you spend yourself into debt that makes a person of poor character and the illusion money makes you happy.

That's what I mean by my wealth. I love what I do and get paid to do it. I'd consider myself wealthy whether I was paid $50K or $100K. Sure, I get a lot of resistance, probably as much as I get on ISH about what I do. I get the "salesman" and "bro science" insults all the time in the field. But just like on here I'll ignore them and move on to the people that do appreciate the industry. But all in all I love the job and that's what makes me wealthy in my eyes!

I'm a millionaire, momma I made it! The last few years have been a real blessing financially, and I am thankful on a daily basis of the opportunity and the freedom it grants me. I work only about 30hrs a week, but play poker an additional 10-15hrs, and then will often look at different investments and opportunities in my free time. I am very money focused in my life right now, and maybe compensate for not dealing with other things in my life but I figure let me just stack up now that I have this opportunity and then reflect on my situation in a few years when I have enough to retire if need be. I make about 3-4times what a starting QB in the CFL makes.
My lifestyle is a bit hectic, I eat out every single day of my life (no fast food) my sleep schedule is pretty ****ed, but I do try to eat healthy and work out a few times a week. Usually go out for a scotch and cigar or a club/bar like once a week. Travel 6-8 times a year, often for poker. Have girls lining up, but I don't have anything serious right now mostly because a) I don't necessarily meet the kind of girls I want a serious relationship with and b) because I have a hard time not living and being on my own. I don't see that changing for the next year or two, but I do want to settle down and have a family by the time I'm 35.
I'm sure some of y'all gonna hate or think I'm bragging or exaggerating but its all accurate and figured I might as well share with y'all.

How do people live on that salary in Bulgaria? I understand housing is pretty much paid for since you live in the house your parents passed down but still.

So what you do is invest and play poker on the side?
That is one thing I had always wanted to do. Acquire a skillset that can pay me to do something that most would see as a hobby. Like poker, pool, or a part time interest. That's why I was looking into taking courses on craft beer making and bartending. I want to have my own bar and brand of beer.

Yeah I think acquiring skills where you can go anywhere in the world and just set up shop and make money is pretty much the best, it grants you so much freedom but also satisfaction in knowing you are mastering a certain skill. And you get to do what you like for a living.
Owning your own bar, serving your very own beer sounds like a very laid back chill and fulfilling lifestyle. I have an incredible love for food as well, but I am horrible in the kitchen, so eventually I would like to team up with a chef and open a spot here in Montreal. Not for the money, although success would bring that, but because I love making people try good food and enjoy tastes and meals they haven't experienced yet.

Poker I am good but I don't have the dedication and savvy to go out and pursue. Pool I am league calibre, but there isn't money in it at my level. I just hustle at bars. Beer I have a great affinity for. I've beer attending several beer festival a year and have got to understand the craft. I wouldn't be in it to make a primary revenue source. Just like yourself I'm in it for the love and if it becomes a hit it would be a bonus. The food portion I want to pair up with a business partner who's a chef.

Where do you live? Kinda surprising that you're comfortable with earning 30k a year.
I am living in Portland, Maine right now where rent is pretty high ($1000+ for 1-bedroom apts).
The main reason we're comfortable is because we are both very smart with our money. For example:
1. We each pay $12 a month for our phone bill
2. Don't pay for cable, just WIFI
3. Neither of us have car payments, both own
4. Limit wasteful spending, never drinking out, eat out occasionally
5. Getting cash back on everything we buy with our credit cards

I would try for the Chase Freedom card to start, you may/may not get approved with that score. They are offering a $150 signup bonus right now.
Or the Capital One Quicksilver, 1.5% back on everything,

Best overall card out is prob the Citi Double Cash. 2% back on everything (1% when you swipe and 1% as you pay your bill)
Supposedly needs good credit though.

I would not trust one sole on this board defining what they do or how much they make.
Some of it is probably fact , but the bullshlt on this forum is ramped.
I am retired , and it doesn't matter how much I make or how much I have.
If you are rich - you are happy in your life, and peace within your self.
I had a career job and enjoyed it immensely , and many of you are shooting for it.
I never gauged wealth with richness in life ... but if 5 people on this board besides myself can say :
"They have had a full filling life " (they know what it is all about)
