Any doubters.
I immediately get a smile from a song of his.
Who better?

Better vocalist?
Bob Seger, for one. He's like a white Otis.

Mercury judging by vocals and his band including him for songwriting, but it's a whole different genre. Some other (hard) rockers have awesome vocal ability, too. Hard too compare.
For Stax/Motown/Soul I'd put Sam Cooke and Wilson Pickett in the same ballpark, but I, too, prefer Otis.
btw don't leave out Stevie and Marvin. There are just too many awesome vocalists of that era.

No way. It would have to be Lennon/McCartney by a mile. No one else comes close.
love Otis sound and he had a powerful voice. Took a song like "try a liitle tenderness" and transformed it to a rawer sounding cut.
Smokey Robinson has to be one of the smoothest vocals but dont really know how he compares to other great vocalist
some of my other personal favs are Gaye and Jackson 5 MJ

They aren't even the greatest white vocalists...that title belongs to Van Morrison. (though mccartney is up there...Lennon is overrated as a vocalist if were talking about actual range)

Van Morrison? What the hell.
I listen almost exclusively these days to non-vocal jazz so vocals aren't a major focus for me, but Lennon and McCartney are so clearly ahead of the pack it's comical. Unless you're just equating a baritone or deeper voice with being 'better.'
But if you're asking who's voice gets you the most excited, I'm rolling with the Hardest working man in show business, the JB, James Brown. Sure he may not have had the smoothest delivery but the man always gets me jumping and jiving.

Otis Redding is the man, but I would take Joe Tex over him.
Joe Tex is greater than Otis Redding and here's why. (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?t=380177)
Hell, I'd possibly take Bobby Blue Bland and Johnnie Taylor over Ol' Otis too. No knock on Mr. Redding.

Well, he was, anyhow. Now he sounds like shit, but he's 70 so whatever.

Since this thread evolved from Otis being GOAT to vocalist.
I'm going to give BOBBY CALDWELL a nod.
Many of his songs were sampled by rappers and R/B groups.

Honorable mention to Howling Wolf. One of my favorite voices ever. Like lightning striking a locomotive track. Masculine but smooth, excellent timbre.
Steve Perry gets an honorable mention too.
