View Full Version : How good was Pau Gasol?

I don't think Pau Gasol was very good. I know some Memphis fans and they told me that he was a soft Euro who was overrated when he played for them. He was better when he came to LA but that was in large part of getting to play with Kobe Bryant. He was a decent rebounder and low post scorer but he wasn't a good defender and was soft mentally. Pau Gasol now on the bulls looks like a plate of hot shit. It means something that the only time Pau Gasol was a competitor is when he played with Kobe Bryant. This should effect Pau Gasol's legacy.

Single handedly saved Kobe's legacy, and along with Dirk is arguably the most skilled 7 footer in nba history.

What did Gasol do with out Kobe though? Gasol is a system player, Dirk is a superstar.

Pau averaged 19/12/50% on a 50-win Bulls team last season. He was also an All Star starter.

He's still pretty solid at 17/11/47% on a .500+ Bulls team this season. Also made the All Star team.

Plate of hot sh!t, alright

It is easy to get 18/11 when you don't play defense. He is like David Lee was a few years ago. He is a one way player.

hes close to a plate of hot sht if u dont ignore defense

hes not far off Kanter as one of the worst defenders in the league. Biggest reason for Bulls dropoff defensively and the worst big minutes Bulls defender since Boozer

He was ok.

Remember, this man never won a single playoff game before teaming up with Kobe though, and he did have decent enough teammates on some of his Grizzly teams.

Basically Pau had the skills and talent to be a consistent #1 option but he didn't have the greedy and aggressive mentality required for it.

He's called a soft defender but he's actually above average.

He's a great passer for a big man too.

Only weakness is lack of aggression.

A very good 2nd option on back to back championship teams, and a team that made 3 straight final appearances.

A second option on teams that had records of
57-25
65-17
57-25
41-25 (on pace for 52-55 wins)

A second option that was capable of giving you 20\10\2 every night on high efficiency, very solid defense, and was able to carry the offense when Kobe was off or on the bench for long stretches.

A second option that 19\10\4\2 and 18\11\3\2 in the regular season and 18\11\3\2 and 20\11\4\2 in the playoffs on championship teams.

A player who was leading Spain to the Olympic finals, giving USA the most competitive games they had in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics. Not to mention leading his team to FIBA World Championships.

Yeah, Pau Gasol was really ****ing good. Still is.

He was an excellent player (and still is). Highly skilled, a good rebounder and passer, and a good interior defender. Never a first tier type star, but a great 2nd option and one of the top big men in the league for several years.
