IMO, he's a lottery pick given the relative lack of talent in this year's draft pool. If Simmons and Ingram are taken, I'd say he's a no brainer and gets drafted on potential alone. Also has a good work ethic, which is a plus.
Thoughts?

He'll go in the 1st round off potential alone.

Kid was being Hyped at one point as a KG lite. He dissappeared.
I don't know what to think of him. Don't think he will be a superstar but could be a solid big with the ability to work the high post.

I wouldn't draft a guy just off potential. Seen too much busts and sucky players based on that. I would get a guy that has at least shown or proven something. Now if it's late 1st rounder/2nd rounder than yeah I'd take a guy off potential.

Yeah, but I feel like his stock has already dropped.

Silver has said on multiple occasions he wants to increase the draft eligible age. I have a hard time believing the league is going to allow him to declare right out of HS.
I do believe the age limit is illegal in NY and should he challenge it in court he should win. The only reason they never went to a higher age limit is that they knew someone would sue (and win) if they limited players to being 2 years removed. With it only being one year removed the NBA might be able to drag their feet so the player still wouldn't be draft eligible even if they won.

Very little chance he goes in the lottery in spite of the lack of talent this year which says a lot about him. I think he will go later than 15. His stock has been consistently dropping so I don't really see how me makes it into the lottery.:wtf:

I'm not a fan of the age limit but if my son is ever blessed to be draft-worthy at 18 (I know Maker is 19) I would not advise him to challenge this rule. By the time the case is over you may well have already missed half the season or at least the draft anyway. Even if you get a victory in an expedited hearing the NBA will appeal until they get a favorable ruling and victory is not guaranteed. The fact that the age limit is part of a negotiated CBA makes anyone that challenges it the underdog IMO. If you have an extremely dire situation in your private life then maybe you have a reason to go through this fight but if a guy is NBA-caliber then he should be able to get a one-year deal at a league overseas that pays well. The overwhelming majority of guys facing this decision should just play college ball for a year with one of those big insurance policies in case of injury.
But in Maker's individual case there's little harm in asking if the NBA will accept his HS grad school (whatever that was) as a year out of HS.I just wouldn't take it to court if they said no.

he'll get drafted because he has a high upside. He isn't very good right now, but has a lot of tools. That alone is worth drafting him at the end of the first beginning of the second round

It's because he already graduated HS you f*cking tard.
If you managed to do your research, you would know that in Ontario it's common for students (especially athletes) to do a 5th year "victory lap" (either to improve grades, or because they like playing a sport, or simply because they don't feel ready for college).
But he already graduated a year ago, hence meeting the draft requirements.

I went to high school (for my freshman year) at Irvine High (Irvine, CA) and there was a kid who repeated his senior year of high school to get another year of basketball in. This would have been back in the late 80s. From what I remember, his father made him do it because he didn't get the big college offers he wanted him to. He was the starting PG and I remember him being a very solid, but nothing special, type of player.
I was on the freshman team at the time and I remember the consensus of all the other guys was that was a really ****ed up, spoiled, thing to do because he was stealing PT from the guy that was coming up from one of the lower squads.

If he was in HS this season, and he WAS, then he hasn't had a year separation between HS and now. Meaning the NBA could easily reject his application.
