It really is crazy how fast time flies. It makes me feel old when players that I vividly remember watching in college are now going into the HOF. It wasn't that long ago that I viewed HOF classes as "a bunch of old guys".

I meant I watched AI when HE was in college. I guess I should have phrased it differently.
Although even by your interpretation it wouldn't make someone that old. AI himself is only 40. I think we forget sometimes how short a career an NBA player has (and most pro-athletes). There's not many professions where people routinely retire in their 30's.

Just imagine you don't have to play any defense at all, never have to pass the ball, and can take whatever idiotic shot you want with impunity...and don't have to practice...wouldn't you play your heart out too?

it was a joke but yea I watched ai since his rookie year so we both old.
i was kinda surprised to hear iverson say that he can't touch the backboard anymore. he's only 40. thought he'd still be able to do that until 50+. but man, the dude took a ton of hits in his career. he was never afraid to go in and bang it up.

Aside from on the court, he had a huge impact on basketball culture as well.

one of the biggest misconceptions about him. Dude was one hell of a defender...yes he gambled a lot but never did you see opposing guards go off on him in his prime.

AI totally revolutionized the sport ON AND OFF the court! In my opinion, AI is one of the top 10 most transcendant basketball icons of all time. And on the court, AI is THE MOST REPSONSIBLE for this era of PG's. Even though AI moved to the SG spot, he had all the skills to be a great PG too. But AI's mentality was score first like the great SG's. So Larry Brown was smart enough to realize that.
If guys like Curry, Irving, Lillard, Russ, or D Rose played in AI's era, they might have been moved to the SG too. And if AI played in this era, he would be at the PG. But in terms of handles, scoring ability, and alpha dog mentality, u can see AI's influence BIG TIME in today's PG.

Much respect for this dude.
Played every game like it was his last. Competed hard and did it while playing with a high skill level. He gave hope to all the undersized ballers out there.
Was a huge influence to the game. From everybody mimicking his crossovers to even wearing cornrows and tattoos. Even all the arm sleeves you see players rocking now was all because of him doing it first.
Not to mention, he pretty much opened the door for all these "PG's" who are really undersized SG's (which I'm not the biggest fan of but whatever).
He's the one who brought the urban/Hip-Hop influence to the game.
That's what made him relateable to people like me. These stars nowadays are corny. I can't relate to anything about them. Wearing tight jeans and shit smh.

Well said! Especially that skinny jeans shit! LOL But in terms of the score first PG's, Steph is really the only one that seems like a great floor general. But he's ALSO the greatest shooter of all time. So it's almost as if Steph NEEDS to get up his shots. So in a POSITIVE WAY, Steph is the PERFECT COMBO guard. Some of the other score first PG's are PG's ONLY because of their height. BUT I wish some of them would have taken the time to learn the nuances of being a floor general.
That's why it was a great move for Larry Brown to move AI to the SG. If u have a big PG or combo guard (like Snow and McKie) to defend the SG's, it can work well. AI was still the assists leader often times, but he was free from having to run the offensive sets all the time.
Not saying they are selfish players, but I still view the PG as the QB of the team. The MOST PREMIUM duty should be making teammates better by dropping dimes and floor generalship. If they have the ability to be alpha dog scorers, even better. Big O, Magic, and Isiah had this down to a science. In today's game, CP3 does it great. But these types of PG's are becoming a lost breed.. I realize Westbrook has GREAT assists numbers. But he does it from a score first mentality.

Talented player on the court but a thug and bad influence. What did he teach kids... that not showing up to practice is ok? That spending absurd amounts of money is cool?
Iverson is that typical dumb ghetto kid that happened to be very good at basketball. So congrats on him for making the bball HOF... well deserved. But **** him for being a loser in life.
