Horrific strategy. Nerd thought he was really the smartest guy in the room with his tank strategy.

You can't rely on draft picks. It's a crap shoot.

Three. All of them are true C's and all injury prone.

The damage has already been done.
And now this:facepalm

If they get Ingram/Buddy this draft and tank 2-3 more years to get a few more pieces for a supporting cast and get something for Embiid the future could be bright.

Called this as soon as they hired Colangelo.

I didn't laugh at Philly before, but I am now.

It says he quit. I think they had recently given him an extension, right?

Or are we assuming it was a quit or get fired scenario?

Any franchise can land a mega star through the draft.

Only a few can land one in free agency.

Sixers are just unlucky. All that tanking and no #1 pick to show for it.

The Sixers didn't trust the process.

Hinkie had em right where he wanted em.

Sources: Bryan Colangelo to succeed Sam Hinkie as 76ers general manager

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--bryan-colangelo-to-succeed-sam-hinkie-as-76ers-general-manager-012928256.html

[QUOTE]After refusing to accept another marginalization of his power, Philadelphia 76ers president of basketball operations and general manager Sam Hinkie resigned Wednesday, clearing the way for two-time NBA executive of the year Bryan Colangelo to take over as general manager, league sources told The Vertical.

"While we are disappointed in Sam's decision, we would like to sincerely thank him for his contributions over the past three seasons." 76ers managing general partner Josh Harris said in a statement. "There is no question that Sam's work has put us in a very strong position to take advantage of numerous opportunities for an exciting future."

Hinkie's top aides in basketball operations learned of his resignation through the media, league sources said.

Colangelo is the son of 76ers chairman Jerry Colangelo, whom the franchise inserted over Hinkie four months ago.

Sixers ownership and Jerry Colangelo wanted Hinkie to accept Bryan Colangelo

I now legit feel bad for the 76ers.

Honestly, it's not even so much that Bryan is bad (he did play a large role in building this Raptors team), it's just that they spent years going all-in on a rebuild plan and now they are just going to overpay mid-tier Free Agents and compete for the 9th seed like the other teams who don't have the balls to shamelessly tank do...all because the dinosaur in Arizona wants it that way.

To think, it was 10 years ago when he got hired by the Raptors. History going to repeat itself or with his dad around going to be like his Phoenix Suns days ?

It says he quit. I think they had recently given him an extension, right?

Or are we assuming it was a quit or get fired scenario? They extended the coach, not Hinkie. They wanted him to be OK having Jerry Colangelo be involved with all major decisions through this year and OK with his son, Brian, effectively being co-GM in the future.

Not to mention this same ownership group pushed him to draft Okafor over defying Porzingis' agent's wishes of steering him from Philly.

I've been both critical and complimentary of this rebuild and found it fascinating back in 2013 when it commenced. Said that they needed a real PG this year- even overpaying Corey Joseph would have been smart.

My biggest issue is with owners blinking a little too early with this plan. Philly was about to have 3+ first rounders, $50M in cap space, and a decent chance to add both Saric and Embiid this summer. The fact that they didn't wait until like December 2016 to let Hinkie actually be active in free agency isn't fair to him, but that doesn't matter since that's their right. And that they claimed they expected for him to be cool with having a father/son combo have the same executive power shows major naivety.

It was only a matter of time once Jerry was brought in. Colangelo wasn't trying to hear about a ten year long rebuild process.

They've been tanking for years. Jerry Colangelo was brought in because the other owners had enough of the bullshit. Its one thing to tank a season to try and snare a top prospect, its another to do it year after year with seemingly no plan to compete anytime soon.

Wow how can a man be so irresponsible? After creating all this mess he conveniently quit on the organization.
